I recall a match or two being played on a mid-week afternoon. This was due to a work-to-rule by the coal miners (or the electrical union?) and the Government were trying to cut electricity consumption.

I thought it was earlier than 1975 as I was at Manchester University from 1971-74 and wouldn’t have been able to get away to a football match on a midweek afternoon in 1975. It was certainly aimed a Conservative Government and they were defeated in February 1974.

I can’t remember who City played. I do recall a bomb scare during a match where everyone was asked to look under their seat for a bomb before play resumed!
Yes it was before 1975…..I was at Stockport college hence easier to get a day off! Definitely was Coventry and I remember the bomb scare!

Coventry at home in the League Cup Quarter Final replay. I had come home from school for my dinner and my Dad said you're not going back in this afternoon we're off to Maine Road instead. Imagine that as an 8yr old kid. Fuck school we're off to see the Blues (now there's a terrace football song for the kids). I remember being sat at the front of the No. 53 bus (pretending to drive it) on the way to the game when I should have been at school. We won 4-2 on an absolute mud bath of a pitch with goals from Franny Lee (2) Summerbee and Denis Law. The headlines the following day were 'Maine Rad's Muddy Marvels'. Coventry played in a green and black striped shirt and black shorts which I have always used as my fantasy football team colour's as it became my favourite ever game for decades probably due to the circumstances around it. Keith Macrae wore an all white goalkeepers strip which I can't remember us using before or since? It didn't stay white for long.
