They don’t have to go there; they will absolutely choose to do so.
Remember when Neville made a documentary for Sky about the world cup in Qatar 6 months before it happened and the was questioning the workers conditions and the laws around gay people and women? Just one week after that was aired he was announced that he was part of the ITV pundit team.

Ian Hislop absolutely destroyed him on Have I Got News For You when he was the guest host

Delaney is like a fucking parrot. He can repeat certain things ("sportswashing, sportswashing, sportswashing, squawk, squawk) but can't actually think for himself and construct a coherent sentence based on that thought.
He keeps shifting the definition to suit his narrative
Wasn’t it him and his chancer mate McGeehan - a nobody in his field who built a business based on slagging City - who invented or at least popularised the term?

This is where the latest Haaland bullshit started from, and has spread across the world’s football media.

Headline and first paragraph translated.

Haaland will ask to leave City on one condition, and Guardiola knows it.

The Norwegian doesn't want to play a season without a Champions League title, and his future depends on City's qualification.

I bet these lying cunts’ apology was nowhere near as prominent as their bullshit anti City article.

To be fair it's already started and this is just the league cup.

Isn't Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup all the evidence you need that Sportswashing isn't actually a thing? Since they've won it these articles have all come out which surely means that Sportswashing as a thing isn't working. If argue the idea of it held more weight if nothing was mentioned. If guys like Ronay, Delaney's etc biggest interactions are on articles relating to this topic then surely as a concept it's failed. Nobody is not talking about Saudi Arabia. If anything, I'd argue "a state" (their words not mine) essentially heightens the scrutiny even more, not less.

"Sportswashing"...what a stupid label.

But a label none the less, the useless media peddle to the braindead (aka the red cartel)

What does it actually mean? Sportswashing?

How can both newcastle and our owners (in the media's eyes) be using the clubs to try yo make their countries look better?..well i tell you something it aint working cos' the media shills spotted it straight..wow what a coincidence - and labelled it as sportswashing and droned on about how morally corrupt it all just is.

When it is more likely, and has been written in fact, that the reason for it was because they wanted to open up their future generations population to western life.

I didn see a headline " liverpool win the league as America gets ready to invade Canada "
Also " liverpool win the league as America executes man by firing squad "

as i said in an earlier thread sportswashing as a term is ridiculous, the very idea that these countries need approval from the west is just so arrogant that it is almost unbelievable, the idea that these thriving countries who far outweigh the west in so many areas need the approval of the west is racism at its finest, do they genuinely believe that the sheikh was sitting in one of his many palaces, tending to his horses, making multi billion dollar deals and being involved in decisions that affect millions of people and all of a sudden thought you know what life is pretty good but if i could get the approval of miguel delaney and nick harris or dave from barnsley then it would be complete, what the press dont seem to get is these deals are solely financially motivated and the sheikh, the saudian arabian rulers, the chinese etc etc dont give a damn what the west thinks or the press thinks, we need them far more than they need us.

Sportswashing is a fake construct made up by human rights group to help push their causes. All countries have state funds which they invest to make profits and to help improve their reputation. Meanwhile the whole idea of diplomacy is to gain soft power and extend influence. All countries do it and it has happened for thousands of years.

They have a catalogue of escape labels for all the scenarios: 'sportswashing', ''conspiracy theory', whataboutery', 'false equivalency' ........

Agree

I've never understood the whole 'sports-washing' concept.

If you follow people like Delaney's line of thought on it then its a form of soft power.

Definitions of soft power

'Soft power is the ability to co-opt rather than coerce. It involves shaping the preferences of others through appeal and attraction.

'Soft power is non-coercive, using culture, political values, and foreign policies to enact change'

'Soft power is the ability to obtain preferred outcomes by attraction rather than coercion or payment.'

Soft power is based on people's ability to achieve positive outcomes by attracting and persuading others to adopt their goals'

So what is the issue of employing soft power?
Then if you look at the various soft power indexes and rankings, the US usually comes top, the UK ranges between position 3 and 8, and the UAE can barely scrape into the top 10.

So it seems white western countries employing soft power = good (or no issue), non-white countries from the middle east = bad.

Exactly.

You don't have to look any further than the rags for that.

If their plans go ahead to build their new circus tent then they'll be the beneficiary of arguably the biggest 'state funded' project this country has ever seen.

But don't worry folks, our beloved British media will spin the fuck out of that for them. The narrative and headlines will be "good cause, developing opportunities, providing new homes and infrastructure". While in reality Scruffy Jim and his band of arse wipes will be suckling on the public purse in the name of progress.

Even if the press or this country or the west could get their house in order in regards to human rights and not look like hypocrites, they still wouldn't give a damn.
