The CWC is a joke. It's a completely needless set of extra games shoved into an already shrinking summer gap designed purely to force competitve games with elite European teams into the American market with no regard for player welfare.
Do you think the players would take a nice big pay cut if it meant not having to play so many games? The only reason teams want to be at the CWC is because of the money and in large part that's down to the financial pressures / wage demands of players that clubs are under.

Whether you like it or not, it's going to become a major competition for all the top European clubs and it was a very important competition for City. Your personal feelings are irrelevant to City's performance.

The journalists are completely right, and Pep said the same thing in his press conference, we were torn apart.

Tore City apart??

Gaughan writing bollocks again.

Have you seen Pep's press conference. That report has come from City's press conference because the journalist's went in on City's inability to counter-attack, and Pep completely agreed with them and emphasised that this is why we lost. Anyone who watched the game would agree. We created chances but when we lost possession it was just like last season, one goal per two counter-attacks.

Not sure that is what it's for. But be realistic, it's a perfectly natural progression from a commercial point of view. If he is concerned for player welfare, he should also be complaining about the number of games in the CL and at international level. Is he? I don't know.

What about getting rid of the CL and having the CWC at the end of every season? What would the people who pay his salary think of that?

The genie is out of the bottle on football finance, first with the WC, then the EC, then the PL, then the CL, then the NL, now the CWC. Complaining isn't going to solve anything, there are going to have to be some serious solutions before football eats itself.

I’m not sure who is paying talksport for these promotional ads for the CWC?Be it C5,DAZN,or whoever,..I really think they need to have a word! They’re paying good money,to have these ads run on a radio station, yet all the presenters of said radio station, cannot manage a positive word about the competition between them!?WTAF?!I’d be looking for a serious discount, after some of the shit that’s been spoken on air…I seriously would!
What do you expect from Talksport.

The commerical media know their market, and they know what gets engagement.

Well said my friend.
At last a bit of sense amongst bedwetters and kneejerkers.

I never claimed my feelings about the tournament were tied to City at all.

We were shit. We gave up 4 goals. Whether it's Barcelona or Barnsley, you can rarely say you played well if you conceded 4.

But that doesn't change anything about this tournament for me and I'm not making any predictions for the season based on a preseason fixture against Al Hilal.

We've been playing players absurd amounts of money as long as Pep Guardiola has been here and likely before as well. How have we managed to sustain this without the Club World Cup to save us?

The Premier League rights were sold to NBC for the US alone for 2 BILLION dollars over 6 years in 2021. We're OK for cash.

We are, but the club will have to keep on pushing revenue sources and can't stand still. Were now paying Haaland what, 500k a week or something, that money and and ever increasing wages for other stars has to come from somewhere.

It was a bit like the Sporting Lisbon CL game. We missed loads of chances but were wide open at the back. I don’t understand why we can’t leave a couple of players deeper to shut the door. And why did Bernie play almost the whole match?

He's massively wrong. The CWC is a pain in the arse, but it's far from being the "worst thing to happen in football". Not even close haha!
Klopp’s comments were driven by malice towards City. If LFC were there he would say nothing. He despises City. He can’t help himself.

I get what you're saying, but as fans, we forget that we don't actually know much as far as revenues and expenditures for the club (you only have to look at the people who think transfer funds are purely determined by ingoing and outgoing transfer fees) so when the prize money got made public for this shitshow, suddenly people decided it was must win.

The club does not struggle for money. Given that the maximum ticket price has just dripped from the mid £90 region to £60, theyve clearly covered that somewhere.

The ownership repeatedly brag about their viewership in America. That to me is likely a far bigger motivator. The prize money is just a case of "its there so we'll take it if we can".

I'm looking at the whole game, not 4 goals conceded from 5 attacks.

If you believe his headline, City were torn apart, when the stats bar the final score line say otherwise.

I'm happy to discuss it in a civil manner.
