Not sure if you are being serious there, if you are I am shaking my head in despair and amazment.

the clue is, I'm going to a pub to watch it.

@Blue Mist You're really shaking your head in despair and amazement. really? ow I get it - you must be one of those 'Super Blues' I've heard about. No red clothers and blue ketchup right?

@ r.soleofsalford. 9 hour round jouney for me to the watch a game with my season ticket. Yeah I'm going to the pub - the clue is '9 hours', but also job and family.

How would you compare them to Super Powers like Russia, USA, UK etc

Those powder kegs you mentioned were the most liberal parts of the Arab world until it goes off.

50-60 years ago, homosexuality was a crime & we still had capital punishment. Sometimes it takes a bit longer for countries to catch up.
If Putin had bankrolled us I’d say the same thing. Good owner, horrible person.

And yeah, only another 400 Year’s and people in the uae will be able to blaspheme without recourse to the firing squad. How enlightened.

I absolutely understand why City fans get defensive about Mansour but they shouldn’t. It doesn’t make anyone less of a blue to agree that they hold power and control through complete ownership of the press and financial bribery (high pay, no tax) whilst building their cities on the backs of poorly paid (by western standards but high compared with their home countries) immigrant labour. I still wouldn’t swap our owner for anyone. I liken it to having a beautiful wife that farts in her sleep. You’d prefer for her not to do it but you wouldn’t like to leave her because of it.

Yes because an average Emirati is on over $100k per year and pays no tax or water rates or utilities cost, there's not much of a powder keg to keep a lid on. The UAE is not remotely like Syria, Yemen or Egypt.

The ruling family are without doubt fantastic to their citizens but no one is complaining about the way that Emiratis are treated, the issue is with the migrant workers that make up 90% of the population.

And whilst you may not care about it, I am not a huge fan of any rulers that have the death penalty for adultery, blasphemy and apostasy.

But they have been great for Manchester City and for that I am eternally grateful, but I can understand why a neutral may say "City are a fantastic team with horrible owners".
It annoys me when the Gulf states get called "oppressive regimes". If you're a Qatari or Emirati and you're happy to keep your nose clean then you're looked after very well indeed. UAE and presumably Qatar are nothing like Iraq under Saddam, Syria under Assad or Libya under Gaddafi. Along with many other places in Africa & central Asia.

In the UAE, as I understand it, you get free education up to and including university level, including studying at university abroad. There's free healthcare which is of high quality. The UAE is one of the best welfare states anywhere in the world. If you're an American, faced with medical & college bills, then you might even feel a bit envious.

If you choose to rock the boat however then you take a huge risk. The accusation that Pep is being hypocritical by supporting prisoners in Spain who have been thrown in jail without charge for demanding democracy and denied bail when our owners have done the same may have a large element of what-aboutery but it is easy to throw at him.

Also if you're a migrant worker then you're completely under the control of your sponsoring employer. So it's definitely not perfect but more the majority of its citizens it works just fine.

Yep. You’ve not said a word of a lie.

Just want to point out your correct wording of citizen rather than resident in your final sentence mind.

Ps, western expats are fine so long as they aren’t tits most of the time as well.

think I could be somewhere to the right of Genghis Kahn. obey the rules to the letter or your in deep shot. And none of this we cannot send you home or send you down because of your human rights or the kids will suffer. They are your kids and your problem. And like the UAE let's have prisons no onw wants to back to. That's the way it should be

Yes you certainly sound weird.

Agree I'm a City fan and I'm more interested in the Spurs game.

I'm going to a pub to watch it. City will be on as well and I'll regualarly check the score but I'm sure main focus will be on Spurs game. Unless the unthinkable happens of course.

Once City are comfortable i'll be tuning in to the fucking tottenham game.

the old their defence is suspect notion, shows they are not interested in how we play, shocking to me we have pep in the prem and all they do is get their claws out for him

How very supercilious
The knee-jerk coffee shop condemning of a young country with relatively recent wealth.
Should give credit for the strides they've made and encourage them further.
Oh jog off. The only thing supercilious and coffee shop is your wank reply.

The only reason you’re ok with adultery and blasphemy being offences worth the death penalty and why you turn a blind eye to the rights of the blue collar workers in the UAE is because you’re a City fan, either that or you’re a non thinking human.

There’s nothing knee jerk about commenting on an area you’ve lived in for six years, your hypocritical moron. What’s your personal experience of the UAE? How long did you live there? Did you not find any cons to go with the obvious pros? I’d also like to hear about the recent “strides they’ve made” as anyone living here would know they are going backwards at present to curry favour with KSA.

'Throw the kitchen sink'
Man City v Basel (19:45 GMT) (agg 4-0)

It will be interesting to see if Man City go for it tonight. I really hope that Basel go for it, I'd love to see them throw the kitchen sink at it.

City's defence has been known to wobble on occasion.

Good to see the BBC aren’t hiding their allegiance

On the one hand a neutral would say this, to get a good game. But can you imagine this comment being made about the opposition for any other English club in a CL game?

Nope, me neither

I'd like to express my heartfelt sympathies to all in the media after their terrible loss tonight, it's so tragic and unfair that despite all the hard work they put in hyping spurs, Juventus saw through it and knocked the bastards out.

There are very strict rules in place in business about state aid - they don't seem to apply to a state funded broadcaster, actively promoting a couple of businesses and actively denigrating another business in a multi-billion pound industry.

BBC match report

"They led through Gabriel Jesus's opener from Bernardo Silva's cross - his first goal since November."

No follow up on why. Words fail me.
