And all we had to do to get that praise was go on the longest winning streak and play the greatest football in PL history! If only we’d known, we could have done it sooner!
But that’s it. With the money we’ve spent we’ve hugely underachieved. We’ve only challenged for the title in the two seasons we’ve won it in the ten years we’ve had the money. I think the media expected a damn sight more from us and have rightly ridiculed us for it all and for everthing else because we aren’t providing them with exciting title challenges. Especially when you see that Leicester could win the league in that time n’all. That’s why Arsenal get so much stick from the media. Spurs are already being talked of like us and Arsenal have done in the past because of their poor Prem season so far.

Not for one minute do i think we have under achieved since 2009 , when you consider Sheik Mansour took over a mid table team without a trophy for 35 years , you cannot compare our situation with a club like Chelsea , Abramovich took over a top four club with recent cup successes their progression was far quicker. It takes time to build a club to dominate football especially in a very competitive premier league , baconface had nearly a decade at the swamp with similar resources before the Rags dominated. The last four seasons we have rightly or wrongly waited for the coach to take us to the next level , and now we are seeing that patience come to fruition , if you want to refer to us as underchievers then lets see where we are at the end of Pep's contract , there will be quite a few supporters and pundits consuming large portions of humble pie. The majority of our supporters are a patient bunch , we have had to be , so waiting nearly ten years for the club to dominate football in this country is a piece of cake , but if you jumped on the bandwagon in 2009 i suppose your expectations would vary.

Spot on Jimbo.

With all due respect, fuck right off with that bullshit.

Exactly, if we had any decency we would go back to under achieving rather than suddenly becoming Europes most feared team. No consideration for the gradual way that allows historically successful teams to catch up. In fact we have no place in the current PL and seem to be ruining the whole global plan for the worlds best league.

It has only taken 8 years or so, but It felt so good listening to Carragher and Henry waxing lyrical over Dave and Kev on Sly Sports. Best Manchester City player ever, a PL legend. Kev might get to the same level in a few years. They are finally climbing on the bus.

To be fair, Henry salivates over Silva on a regular basis, has done nearly every time he's covered a City game since he started working for Sky.

“I allowed them [Tottenham] to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world went: ‘Tottenham lost the title,’” Clattenburg told NBC’s Men in Blazers podcast.

Clattenburg admits he didn't ref to the letter of the law and went in with a game plan because he was afraid what the media might say about him.

Something I've suspected for years, we have been the media's pantomime villain for a decade now so it's easier for refs to give decisions against us.

In a half hour FA Cup draw, the only "special" status given to any team when they read out the numbers was "Manchester City, the team the whole of Europe want to watch at the moment".

Tell that to Irish broadcasters. They haven't shown City once in the CL this year.

Really? Makes the last 68 FA cup ties featuring the rags all being televised seem a bit insignificant...

I can't believe that every other Wednesday night in the 1970s I had to miss Corry and sit through Liverpool playing in Europe on live TV.

Not at all. Fiver says the rags game will be televised...

I'm sure it probably will. But that won't be "anti-City" bias. That will be because they get the biggest viewing figures.

Half this fucking forum spend their days whinging about shit like this and they'll all be watching it.

That's very presumptuous.

I think we have underachieved and frankly, it is easy to point to several examples but I only have time for two:

We didn't win the F.A. Cup when we only needed to beat a team that was about to be relegated.
We weren't alone in this but we let Leicester win the title.

As a club, we have persistently underachieved in my 50 years supporting City and the history books would suggested that is not a recent phenomena.

Underachievement these days is just at a different level to what it was, now it is a case of winning less trophies than we should rather than not winning any trophies at all and I can live with that. However, it would be really nice to see us deliver what a squad of the calibre we have should and absolutely delightful to see it overachieve. I hope Pep can be the guy who does that.

He doesn't even understand the new regulations (no surprise there). The only dives which will be reviewed are those which result in a penalty or yellow/red card decision for the opposing player. None of which applies here
Keys was an embarrassment. On and on and on like a Jack Russell with a bone. He was desperate to get the rest of the panel to agree with him. What a stump.

Of course that’s why. But this thread exists to discuss how City are treated in the media and the difference between how City is covered in the media in comparison to how United covered is part of that.
