Merseyside's finest did try to track him by phoning his contact number but he didn't answer.

No they got the answer machine
and left a message 'Dis is de police at Tuebrook nick. Please leave a message'.
So the officer checked the messages but it was engaged and he got through it was the Station answer machine asking him to leave a message. Which he did and its been going backwards and forwards ever since which is one of the reasons they never have the resources to catch bus wreckers.
It only stopped when a new officer started at the nick and he listened to the messages. He asked the sergeant if it was an offence to impersonate a police officer. 'Dere's a message.on here from some bloke whose trying to sound like that bloke who has just retired'.

Weirdly there is no mention whatsoever of his time as the vainglorious personal empire builder and founder of FC Ego Trip or the shady circumstances of his departure from the Moston pallet stack, along with a big bag of money and half his lickspittles from the board.
Just like the work of David Conn the Uncle Tom, their commitment to honest journalism seems to fail them when dealing with this speccy shyster

Andy Walsh, I use to know him well. His sister was my GF for a couple of years. At one time he also played in goals for our football team, he was as bad at that as he was supporting the rags. In the years I knew him he never attended matches and that was well before FC United came along.

I thought that 'rubes' might be names for the rags or perhaps specifically one of them such as Scholes or Hucknall. possibly a typo for pubes.
But l have learned a new word and l rather like it.

It does fit rags generally quite well.
