I know I'm a Sad Old Git who clearly has far too much time on his hands but..

In the past few days I've heard the odd reference in the media to us equalling the record of 14 consecutive victories held by Preston North End (season 1891-92) and Arsenal (season 1987-88). None of it with the pomp and circumstance that certain teams which play in red might have received had they done the same but mentions none the least, so I'll take that, ta very much.

However, it got me thinking (always a dangerous pastime for me). I looked up the records for both Preston and Arsenal and compared to the current run City is on:

Preston (1891-92 season)
- 14 wins between 24 October 1891 and January 30 1892
- that's 99 days inclusive, therefore 1 game every 7.1 days

Arsenal (1987-88 season)
- 14 wins between 12 September and 11 November 1987
- that's 61 days inclusive, therefore 1 game every 4.4 days

City this season
- 14 wins between 19 December 2020 and 7 February 2021
- that's 52 days inclusive, therefore 1 game every 3.7 days

We all know how undervalued City's recent achievements have been, particularly by our sports media. But this latest achievement, given the lack of a proper rest for our squad, the lack of pre-season and the injuries we've had all through the season, is some bloody achievement.

If we are fortunate enough to win at Swansea in the FA Cup on Wednesday, that will be 15 games in 55 days or 1 game every 3.6 days. I'll say it again.. that would be some bloody achievement.

Now, I'm not intending any slight on either Preston and Arsenal for what they achieved but I don't think either had to put up with the pressures City has faced during this recent spell, from the intensity of the games nowadays (let's face it, Preston played at a time when an injury was treated by the Sponge Man ambling on the pitch to offer the injured party a couple of draws on his Woodbine and a belt of rum from his hip-flask) to the multiple problems that the pandemic has brought to game preparation.

However, I doubt that we'll get anything from the media in general other than the equivalent of an 'Oh by the way, City won again last night at Swansea in the FA Cup taking their winning run to 15 games. Now, here's the Racing tips..' But you never know..

Oh and by the way, Herr Klopp, our recent run didn't include two weeks off for a holiday..

Meanwhile, you can still watch the Sky football documentary about the Dipper’s record breaking, first league title in 30 years.

Just another Blackburn or Leicester.
