Spot on.Phil is a City player and plays to a higher level than most of his England teammates. His footballing brain works so quick that by the time phil has decided what he is going to do, his England teams are still thinking how to trap the ball ! So Phil's movement is wasted.
Walker yesterday charged down the line a few times but had to pass back as nothing was on. The same with Stones. Same when Sterling makes his runs.
The City lads seem to be that much quicker in thought.
Southgate picks City players because of their positional awareness and positive play as well as skills.
They make team mates look better but lack the same level of support from them and are criticised for being made to look bad or worse for making mistakes when they are left isolated and hung out.
As an earlier poster said, both the goals and 3 hits of the post came from City players. No others have come as close. City players have also played a key role in not conceding a goal.
