So what’s your point? The fuel of publicity doesn’t mean that their work is any more valuable than than ordinary members of the public doing a full time job during the day and then preparing food and serving it to homeless people at night.

Actually, putting Captain Tom and Marcus Rashford together isn’t right. Captain Tom wasn’t a celebrity and he captured the public’s imagination by social media activity by his family and the care home he is in. The publicity reached critical mass that the MSM couldn’t ignore.

I believe that Marcus Rashford is a genuine guy who would do what he’s done without the media circus. However the machine behind him is using him for a narrative and a reflective glow.

I’ve got a lot of respect for capt Tom, he just wanted to raise money and didn’t know it would blow up but I agree, it’s being milked now and I couldn’t agree with you more about social media.

I too just have Bluemoon, YT and LinkedIn, that’s it. I too read through LinkedIn at times in utter disgust at the self promotion going on with “good deeds” and the needless bragging people do. Narcissism is absolutely rife in this generation, and it’s not just young people.

If you buy a homeless man a coffee, why do you then need to promote your business on the back of it?

The best indicator of morality is things you do when other people aren’t watching you.

Helping the less fortunate should be something you do without broadcast for accolades.

I understand people saying that at least the less fortunate are getting what they need and I agree, and I understand people saying it encourages others and I agree... however you can still give to the less fortunate and encourage others without being a sanctimonious twat.

Was just saying exactly the same thing to the poor unfortunate souls of the leper colony I volunteer at. It is so sad we ignore their needs at this time and can only buy gloves with 5 fingers. Since mittens have gone out of fashion these forgotten people just have constantly cold hands

Surely the point here is that Karney lied about Leeds on national TV. They didn't get promoted because of Covid. She should apologise for saying it. It’s difficult to contemplate being homeless. I can’t imagine it because I simply don’t want to. On top of that horrible situation you are forced to accept help from strangers who are photographing you and only thinking about how many likes they are going to get. They must have zero respect for the person they are supposedly helping.
