I disagree, Pep hit back just at the right time as the media had already started to report Klopp‘s quote and, as usual, without any challenge which meant those gullible enough would have took it as fact.

Pep is the face of City and by highlighting it the media had no choice but to then right the wronged narrative.
Perhaps you are right about the timing but I think a more measured response would have had more impact leaving Klopp looking like a fool. The press got what they wanted which was a contrived "storm between Pep and Klopp."

Honestly, this is the reason I'm not renewing my Athletic subscription. It was sold as a new dawn for football journalism, unbaised, intelligent discussion above the usual fanzine crap you get from the tabloids. That's what the coverage of baseball is like on there, it's generally excellent. But then instead for the football version they hired people like James Pearce, a fully paid up member of Liverpools PR department.

Such a shame as there was a real market for better football coverage, instead we got the same shite but with added arrogance

I mean...that's what the Athletic has always been. Their MO is they have dedicated local reporters covering each club. That really sets them apart in the US where there might be 32 teams in the 4 major sports and the traditional media has one guy covering a whole city across 4 sports or a couple of guys covering 5 or 6 teams in one sport.

In the UK, and in football especially that's not really a big selling point because most clubs have pretty wide coverage already, especially as a City fan, we get covered by 20-30 journalists every press conference and being in the top 4/title race guarantees we pop up in league wide coverage. If you were a Wolves fan, or Brighton, you would probably be happier about the dedicated reporters.

I don't think it's an Athletic issue with Liverpool - I think the problem is the club. They only allow absolute sycophants who will print what they're told to get decent information and stories. Pearce, Reddy, Barrett...they're great if you're a Liverpool supporter because they get rewarded for the propaganda with good stories.

For me, the very in-depth pieces, like the Foden one, the Aguero one, the recent CFG one are worth the £1 a month that I pay for it.

It’s no wonder Pep is irritated. The media purport to be knowledgable about football but the level of the questioning is so poor and repetitive. How many times does he have to say one game at a ime before it sinks in that Liverpool is just another game to a professional like Pep, and as he says the same number of points are at stake. On a side note the sly sports prediction (can’t remember wich journalist) predicred that both the Blades and Burnley would restrict us to a draw,
Rather than genuinely try to predict, they are like schoolchildren who hope for a certain result without any credible reasoning.
Yes it’s nice to have positive articles written about City but who actually cares really? What matters is what happens on the pitch and I’ve said before I would rather they dislike City and betray their obvious ignorance and bias rather than fawn over everything we do (as per Utd. And L’pool) which not only. alienates the rest of football fans but even Utd fans, if my experience of them is a anything to go by are embarrassed at some of the shite written about them
Lets keep showing them how it’s done on the pitch, not the back pages of increasingly irrelevant “newspapers”
What we see is the same leading questions, by the same suspects with the same agenda?

It is a clear and obvious campaign that is wearing thin yet still has financial incentives from certain parties.

Pep rightly treats it with disdain and does not give them any ammunition. The rags and red dippers are increasingly deperate.

I defy anyone to find a more pathetic headline and football related article written by the football press.

Now on the Daily United.

Manchester United's preparations for Everton clash disrupted as emergency services race to squad's Lowry Hotel base just minutes after players arrived - with two fire engines dispatched after reports 'kitchen alarm was sounded' (Luke Shaw was seen sneaking out the back of the kitchen)

Only after 19 games have all teams played each other once. That is the first milestone to negate any arguments about easy fixtures.

The League is decided after 38 games including home and away fixtures with all teams. The start and finish is the same for all clubs making a mockery of Klopps statement as all teams play within the same time frame. Desperate or what?

An official statement like you suggest would have been rightly ridiculed. It’s of zero importance what klopp said. An official statement would have looked very sad and a major over reaction.

I always find it amusing that people pin one person or the other as the winner of “mind games”. For example, if Jose said something and pep said something, the media would paint Jose as the winner and pep as being wrong to “accept the bait” regardless of whether pep actually took it seriously or not.

pep was not remotely bothered yesterday. He basically said he did not think klopp was as pathetic as Jose but maybe he is. That was the put down. Klopp is the one who looks a fool.

I get it, mate, but they already had their story which set a false narrative. Pep actually diffused it immediately after saying he would have a chat with Klopp, meaning they couldn’t spin it anymore as they know each other on personal terms.

It shows how bias the media is. Klopp’s comment is false and it would simply need an article with a fixturelist to show that. Did the media bother? It probably doesn’t sell papers.
Jack Gaughan managed to write an entire article in the Mail on this “war of words” without apparently seeing fit to state the correct facts and demonstrate that Klopp was at best mistaken or at worst a bitter, bare faced liar

Which article was this?

I read an article by Jack Gaughan and it included a fixture list of matches, as was requested by @eversince 76, and highlighted we only had 7 days off.

Post deleted because I referred to a certain TV pundit as a idiot. Apologies if this contravenes COC but could the word not have just been edited out or replaced because the post was quite topical?
