If it’s about the best supported club worldwide I can’t be bothered. I’m foreign to and support the club since late 76.
I support the club and love being around with fans that truly support the club and take succes as a bonus.
So these last 10 years have been some ride. The club is in good hands on all fronts. And yes, not everything goes according to plan or sometimes the club make decisions I don’t agree with. But I would rubbish a (former) staff member that goes on about the club being bigger or having more fans than any rivals in other parts of the world. If that is where the attention is we need not to worry about that lot across town.

It's really quite sad and annoying that they see us in such negative terms. They're seeing one of the greatest manifestations of football theory and tactics in England since the legendary Hungarian side of the 1950's took England apart and Alf Ramsey's 'wingless wonders' of 1966. And they simply can't appreciate that for what it is.

It's not City or Pep's fault that Spurs and Arsenal are shite, that Chelsea change manager more often than they change their socks or that United have one of the most underwhelming managers and pedestrian sides of their recent history (and they're the second best side in the PL). Or that the US-owned clubs fail to reinvest fully in renewing their squads or that United prioritise making a statement over getting good value or players who fit their system in their transfer policy.

People commented admiringly on how Ferguson (often expensively) refreshed his squads and motivated them to success. Yet they deride Pep for the same thing.

When Ferguson & Wenger ran every aspect of their team's activities, they were praised and admired. We've moved on from the model of the all-powerful manager to a collegiate approach where CEO, DoF and the coach work in absolute harmony delivering the best outcome for the club, on a global scale. We rolled out the model to other clubs and some of the CFG clubs are seeing conspicuous success now. United didn't even have a decent succession plan for their successful manager, despite having had years to do that.

And yet they say our success, which comes from fine-tuning every aspect of our operation, is "depressing". Well I know what's depressing and it's the closed and small minds of these morons who actually get paid for commenting on our game.
Excellent read that Col

I checked and it was 2015

He was very complimentary about us, which (as I said) I don't think they'd anticipated. To be honest I wouldn't have expected him to say they had met their match but the statement about Asia was clearly defensive. I wouldn't swap those 3 PL titles, probably 4 soon, since they last won it for a big Asian fan base (as much as I love us having a lot of foreign fans).
Like you I take more pleasure from City winning trophies, especially the PL, than dick waving about number of fans, net spend, most expensive signings etc.

Interesting that the Daily Mail article was in 2015 and things have moved on with City, CFG and with the arrival of Pep.

David Gill is now approaching 64 years old with his best years behind him. He, Parry, the "hateful eight (9?), G14 and others have been fighting a rearguard battle to protect their status quo having failed to stem City's success. There is a generation coming through around the world who have only known City as consistently the top English club. The media and fans of other clubs are starting to recognise this and are now asking if this Pep side is the best in the world? A far cry from City Bingo of yore.

Covid has exposed financial issues in football although City are in a strong position on and off the field. Other clubs like ManU, Barca and RM to name a few, do have problems. I will be interested in comparing facts, views and perceptions post Covid.

Gill coming out and making statements like that shows the time line of complacency within that club. They laughed when City got taken over by Sheikh Mansour, they would never be able to compete with Manchester United even with all that money was the mantra. Their lack of rising to the challenge and thinking that how they operated from 1992 onwards would keep them at the top of English football.

I think they may have only broken 80 points in a league campaign once since Ferguson left. They are stuck in a time warp with a manager that rambles on about the 90s and the United way in his press conferences. He is surrounded by Fergie’s minions in the dug out, trying to push 20 year old kick and rush playbooks as a football philosophy.

Sponsors are not falling over themselves to have their name on the shirt judging by their latest announcement. Less money than the Chevrolet deal, no match day income and loans being taken out to cover operating costs. The manageable debt they talk about seems to be slowly getting bigger and bigger. The rag’s house is built on sand whilst the Glazers take their money out year after year.

The takeaway from this for City and their owner is to never get complacent over a period of time, otherwise we will end up like them.

Great post mate.

The attitude ever since Pep arrived in 2016 has been unbelievable. Some journalists were hostile from the off, and there was barely concealed glee in his first season when it appeared that he might be having problems adjusting to English football. Even now you can see people such as Simon Stone and Jamie Jackson try to trip him up in press conferences (obviously thinking to themselves how clever they are while actually looking like utter dicks), to say nothing of Rob Harris's question immediately in the wake of City clinching the domestic treble a couple of years ago.

I can understand that the way City have ascended to success isn't going to appeal to the football romantic in everyone, but it should be a real privilege to be paid to observe Guardiola. It's not hyperbole to say that it would be akin to a chance to observe Shakespeare from close up for a theatre officionado or an opportunity to see Mozart from near quarters for a classical music lover. That isn't hyperbole - Pep really is that good.

The fact that so many take a different view is extremely telling. I keep banging on about the manifest lack of good faith in so much reporting on City these days, and right here you have it exemplified.

I'm not sure about this, its a work in progress, but I think there are 3 reasons behind the types of reporting, or which is the worst.
One is that, they are basically fanboys of other teams.
Second are those who are after clicks and think that they have to create conflict, much like the majority of political journalism.
Third are the ones who seem to have a vested interest, like the WhatsApp group, who probably couldn't write a piece about tactics if their life depended on it.
The idea that real fact and figures are absent from their cries for attention, link them together.

Businesswashing....
Yes I read this earlier.
I am sure that all self respecting football fans outside us Blues will now lobby their local MP to object to such an obscene amount of dirty oil money being invested in the UK.

Seems strange that City don't get a single mention given Mansour & Khaldoon's involvement in both.

I'm being slightly sarcastic BTW, it wouldn't do for a positive article to be linked with us on the BBC website.

To be fair the investment fund mentioned in that article is state-owned, so clearly there is no connection to the very much private CFG ;)

Good man, fucking ace , how to make a twat of yourself on t .

Good man, fucking ace, how to make a twat of yourself on telly. What a tosser.

If you want to see more abject stupidity, watch him, another and braindead fucker Darmesh something or other , and the buck toothed Scottish twat Brian Swanson talking utter bollocks on the Sky Transfer Show.

An experience in pure shite which you need only to watch once to gauge the quality of the content.
