Piece from Jonny Nicholson Irish Examminer think it's called?

When winning becomes boring

Manchester City moving 11 points head after their win (10 after the Chelsea v Liverpool draw) was bad for the Premier League and bad for everyone who isn’t a City fan. To have the season sewn up in the first days of the new year is, to say the least, disappointing. Football is about competition.

When it is a cakewalk for any team, it makes it all feel a bit pointless. When it is the same team that has won in three out of the last four seasons, even more so. As fantastic as their football often objectively is, it leaves people cold. It has the soulless ice of technical drawing and lacks the warmth created in struggle. The City sportswashing project has been 100% successful, their wealth so entrenched now, and so unquestioned, that I feel we should ignore them as much as possible and try to pretend they don’t exist. Everything will be far more enjoyable that way.
As a City fan who makes a living from technical drawing, I guess Jonny Nicholson really must dislike me.

I think it makes a very worrying point.
'A problem for the Premier League and its broadcast partners'

They do not want a one horse race so what will they do about it. Mane was not sent off, imo, purely to ensure an even, competitive game for the world wide audience. No way do they want us walking it.

Dont think they premier league will be worried, the tv money keeps going up and up. If it’s so much of a one team league Liverpool have managed to win during our dominance when they didn’t manage to to it when the rags were the unchallenged top dog. They should all try harder and stop crying.

The DT this morning suggests that the 'breathless classic' from yesterday 'delights Pep'! I should imagine Pep doesn't give a flying fuck. I couldn't be arsed reading the actual report as I suspect the hack would suggest that CFC 'n The Dippers are awarded a further six points each for such 'breathless classicism'!

Was this **** saying any of this in the 2019/20 season?

This narrative that we have some sort of squad that can’t be competed with, on top of being a machine that gobbles all before it needs to be challenged, especially now that we have ex-players working in the media.

We have the best football management structure & manager in place because we are a well run club at all levels. We have a superbly coached team because we have the best manager in the world, this despite having no recognised consistent LB since 2017, no striker since practically January 2021 & a raft or our own Covid issues since early Dec.

Like Khaldoon said in 2020, “this football club will not be held accountable for the shortcomings of others.” It is down to them to match the standard that we set. Just like we’ve had to rise to the challenge of United, Chelsea & Liverpool over the years, get on with it and stop fucking looking for excuses to cover your own shortcomings.

We’re top & clear because we’ve done the business on and off the pitch, faced our challengers and conquered them, including Stamford Bridge, Anfield, Old Toilet & Arsenal away from home before mid-January.
No centre forward(s) and no natural left back apparently constitutes “a squad with no weaknesses”, according to The Guardian. Still unable or unwilling to accept the CAS verdict too. Great stuff.

The PL certainly have unanswered questions; the lawyers have spent two years crawling over our accounts and not found anything to ask about yet.

These insinuations appear so regularly in The Guardian, both among staff writers and freelancers such as Wilson, and the language used is so similar on each occasion that it can only be the result of a deliberate editorial line their sports journalists are being encouraged to push at every opportunity. It's clearly done in the utmost bad faith, as well, as they continually present highly contentious assertions as fact.

What irritates me is the nauseatingly smug level of moral authority they try to project when doing this. Be a set of shameless fake-news liars in the modern style if you really want to, chaps, but don't try and fucking gaslight us. We're not stupid enough to fall for it and we see right through you, vile racist propagandists that you are.
Wow. Go for it, mate.

I wonder why they never focus on the question "Why are CFC, Dippers and the Arse ten points plus behind. Why not put a searchlight on the footballing deficiencies in those teams who can't keep up. Much easier and a measure of innate laziness to go for the team who's leading by a margin. Doesn't surprise me that it was never a problem in other seasons when it was another team which raced ahead. Then it was a case of Team X being better than the rest of the pack.
