I didn't say that!

Don't try to put your own slant on this. The club have hired a top guy because they expect, know, or presume that the charges are unlikely to be minor.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

The charges aren’t minor but their evidence may be minor / circumstantial.

Just read that vile hitjob from a Spud writer in The Athletic saying our success 'came easily'. Only caved and took out a sub at Christmas and within two days I knew a pound a month was too much. So many journalists there hate us, the readership are convinced the'yre good little liberals but clearly despise Arabs, until we ran into bother we were lucky to get one story a week out of them, and no, I don't want to chat about the game with non-blue Sam Lee. They are having an absolute field day over there, even playing 'Fantasy City's fucked' with a piece about which of our players would be drafted to which club.
Can you cancel now on principle, even though you’re on the £1 12 month offer? I would, just to make the point - and to save your sanity mate.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

City wouldn't appoint a £50/80k a day brief if they think the charges / allegations are minor. They're clearly not

Put it this way... If the charges don't stick, City should absolutely wipe the floor with the PL and sections of the media. There would be no reason whatsoever for the City Group not to.

That said, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to do it if we 'win'.

Football at the 'elite' level stinks across the board.
City are THE top club, having their reputation dragged through the mud by the powers that be. They have rich owners. Such people and organisations hire the best - like Guardiola, and Khaldoon. If you have the temerity to challenge them, expect them to fight back hard via the absolute best lawyers available. That's what top, rich people and organisations do. Money talks, especially in the law. If you've got deep pockets, you hire the best available. That's what City have done as far as possible since the takeover. City value their reputation very, very highly.

You are talking about Lord Pannick - world renowned as one of the very, very best, and he will be surrounded by an excellent team of juniors below him, also on absolute top dollar. Moreover, he's been briefed by City on this type of matter before and excelled against the challenge. He knows exactly what the arguments are going to be, and is one of the most brilliant barristers in the UK - a modern day George Carmen.

As to £80k a day, this is probably his rate in court, or at a hearing. He doesn't get paid £80,000 a day for the next 5 years, just when he's involved. Whether it is £80k a day, I have no idea - only City and his "Clerks" will know what's been agreed, but it's probably not far off the mark, given the multi million, or multi billion value of the issues involved in the case. Chances are, he's being paid a retainer and his actual fee for the court/hearing won't be agreed until much nearer to any hearing date.

That's how it is when you challenge City.......... and Sheik Mansoor.
