Keep hearing in the media how there can be no better motivation for a player than to stop the treble (and protect the legacy of a team that played 25 years before you)

Well what about the motivation of actually winning a treble yourself??

Honestly, I don’t get that. The real motivation, of course, is all about winning the treble rather than to protect achievement of other lads 25 years ago. I do not think that likes of Casemiro, Antony, Fernandes are very much concerned with whatever Scholes and Giggs achieved. Yes, they will be motivated to win but all this stuff around importance of not allowing City to win the treble is just inflated by the media

I'm no psychologist but it strikes me that it's far better motivation to be positively trying to win something than to negatively stop someone else winning it. We get an early goal, these will crumble.
