Mel Machin sacked

at the match after machin was sacked I was told that the real reason for his sacking was machin and justin fashanu who was having a trial with city at that time were caught in the showers in an uncomprimising position. i dismissed it as nonsense then a few months later fashanu came out of the closet

Here's another report on Machin's sacking with some nice shots of Maine Road...

Machin never got really excited about anything though.

Truth be told while Mel was in charge there wasn't, with one noticable exception, much to get excited about!

rip swalesy...you were a daft plonker, but you were OUR daft plonker

Bollocks. An incompetent, egotistical, self-seeking c**t who put absolutely nothing into the club but took everything he could out of it (best paid employee for years, for example), used it to further his own position in the FA and give himself a public profile, doing so at the expense of the interests of the club (turned down several offers of investment that would have required him to step down or take a back seat).

One of the worst things - if not actually the very worst - to happen to our club in its history. I utterly despise that man and will NEVER forgive him. And still you get fans giving it this, "Oh, good old Swalesy - may have made mistakes, but a true Blue." Give me strength.

PS - I say this having actually seen the books of the club from when Swales stepped down as chairman.

Got to agree with Dyed there. Swales ran the place like his own little fiefdom with no consideration shown to players, staff and most vitally the fans. At the time of his mis-rule match day was the clubs biggest earner and we were treated as cattle. The man had delusions of competence and scant respect for anyone who was not one of his pals from the golf club.
This jovial image is born of rose tinted nostalgia and I for one doubt that a great many of our younger posters would belive just how shite the match day experience was in those days!

What fascinating films, particularly Swales' cringeworthy attempts at repartee - or should that be rapport? - with Jimmy Greaves...

And yet more confirmation that Swales was an embarrassing, shambolic amateur who made us the butt of a thousand jokes. Anyone who ever moans about Garry Cook should do themselves a favour and watch this footage. We don't know how lucky we are.

I honestly think if you'd picked a random ten blokes off the top of a 76 bus on match day they could not possibly have run the club worse than Swales and his cronies, laughingly referred to at the time as 'the Board'. I am also sure the random ten blokes would have taken less out of the club and given more.
