Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

This is Sydney's shirt, a bit like ours. Carn't see the Heart changing.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Looking at their forum, most of em happy about the news but also would keep the shirt colours red-white nearly 90%. Even if its only a 4-5 year old club, they used to the shirt surely, so I wouldnt change that, especially with the rival club being in some sky blue shirt too.

G'day guys,
Melbourne Heart season ticket holder here, woke up this morning to find the great news my club had been brought by MCFC. Very positive news after the season from hell it's been with us only getting our first win last Friday night. Anyway, most of us Heart fans feel a name change to Melbourne City FC would be good for the club, as others have said, it's a real football name and it would mean we'd finally not have to put up with the media's insistence on using heart related puns when reporting on us. However, many of us, including myself, would like to see our club stick to the red and white colours especially when the city of Melbourne's flag is red and white. Also having two blue teams already in the league means we'd still prefer the red and white.

Also in our league, our governing body, the FFA must approve of any name change or colour changes as well as any sale of the club, which luckily for us was approved. I must say I really hope you guys invest heavily in our club as I'm sure our players would prefer real ice baths instead of the current wheelie bins they use now.

How would you feel about red and black stripes along the lines of the most identifiable Man City away kit for nearly 50 years, maybe with white trim - along the lines below, worn in the 1981 FA Cup semi final? Could that be a compromise to give a kit that links to the 'City Football Group' heritage while still giving a nod to the colours of the city of Melbourne and of the club's original kit?

Incidentally, this mob, Melbourne City FC (presumably a junior team) have a Facebook page on which they've posted the message I've reproduced below (see here for link - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Melbourne-City-Football-club/355862536403):

Melb City FC:

The Melbourne City Football Club wishes to announce to our members, fans, players and public the club will dispute any trademark lodged applications from the Melbourne Heart football club.

We will not surrender our club name.

Thank you

MC FC

A final point - when we announced the formation of New York City FC, a few of us suggested that there'd be more clubs to follow and there were one or two murmurs in the media to this effect. I think Shanghai and Mexico were mentioned. Given that the A-league champions go into the Asian Champions League, does this mean that we'd be unlikely to go for another team in Asia?

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

It seems like the plan is to own a club in every football confederation. So wouldn't be remotely surprised to see 3 more clubs from the CONMEBOL, CAF and AFC zones joining UEFA, OFC and CONCACAF as part of the "City Football Group." I imagine even Sheik Mansour would have problems with Antarctica so that will probably be left as it is :)

It should be noted (if it hasn't already) that Sheik Mansour is involved with Al Jazira of UAE. I would imagine however that isn't part of the wider scope and it certainly isn't being mentioned in same breath as NYCFC or Melbourne. My guess is there are probably clubs in China and Japan being looked at over the UAE league simply due to the population being so restricted. With this plan the only conflict of interest (as far as ownership is concerned) could be the World Club Championship which isn't exactly a major concern on here when it comes to competition priorities.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

I doubt they'll be able to have a sky blue away kit as that will clash with Sydney's home kit.

I'm not sure if A-League clubs have a third kit.

Australia is now a member of the Asian Football Confederation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Football_Confederation#Members, which is why I suggested above that the idea of buying a club in China may be on the backburner.

Melbourne City FC were an Aussie Rules outfit that disbanded in 1913. You will not surrender "your" name. How much? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_ ... tball_Club

Then Melbourne wouldn't need to wear an away kit for that game. They would wear the home one.
