IRA turn up with a 400lb bomb in a digger and armed with assault rifles but we've disregarded their human rights.
Should we have just let them kill whoever they wanted?
Lunatics are truly running the asylum if this goes ahead.

The Fail again. The British Army in NI had clearly defined rules of engagement of when we could open fire. One, of course, was self defence if fired upon. We had to give clearly given orders to give up/lay down their arms and be arrested. If they didn’t then it was ‘Halt or I shoot’. I agree that there were probably many, many times when actions happened far too quick for all these things to happen. Not sure what happened in this incident as I refuse to click on Fail links. Otherwise we have ‘death squads’ and we are supposed to be above what happens all to often in other countries.

This is what happened

Awk sure they should have shot them in the back when they were running away, then they'd get away with it.

Another completely pointless (and expensive) witch hunt by Sinn Fein/ Republicans decades after the events happened.
The best way to stop appeasing these people is for them to pay for all these enquiries out of their own funds, let Sinn Fein et al. pay for all the barristers and other legal experts instead of putting the financial costs against the British taxpayers.

In the middle of a war a unit turns up to take out a local police station and get's ambushed by another unit and most die?

What's the problem exactly?
Disgusting that our servicemen are even being threatened with any prosecution. Considering the amount of innocent victims we've had from the IRA then it's ridiculous that this is even being thought of.
Fuck around and find out.

Probably bullshit story but if not it's a farcical situation
From what I can gather from the article the Conservatives when in government introduced a new Act in 2023 which the High Court have just said has clauses incompatible with European Human Rights laws and is thus unlawful.

I assume that means some inquiries which were paused by the Act are now re-activated. Or something like that anyway.

I do agree however that it is a farcical situation but the law often is.

I still have my rules of engagement card. : )

Coming up with "rules" for when a, mostly young, man or woman is faced with a life or death situation is just a pen pushing exercise. Who knows how any of us would react? Put human beings into an inhumane situation where they could be killed then do not be surprised if inhumane things happen.
