Memories of Newcastle May 1968, title decider.

Got there before the gates opened and the ground looked half full by 1:45. Crowds outside tryingto get in.

We took at least half the attendance, no segregation, shoulder to shoulder with opposition fans, and no bother whatsoever.

Football fans enjoying a great day. One I'll never forget.

Better times in society.
Was a bit of bother at the top of the Leazes End before the start.

I as a fourteen year old, along with thousands of other blues made the trek up to St James Park for the title decider. One of the best days of my life, (Catching the train from Stalybridge by myself (32s/6d).

Share your memories of the day,

My old man was there with my grandad.

He claimed he nicked some turf and replanted it in his dad's back garden. Theres a bit of city history in a Newall Green garden.

I was 11, I was supposed to go up with my neighbours in their car but I was ill and couldn’t go, still remember my Dad bringing the Pink in with the headline “City Champs”

Went with our kid and all the Langley lads on a fleet of yelloways coaches from Middleton parked at the cattle market and we all walked up to the ground one older Blue said we're taking the leazes so we did .Over 25 thousand Blues there that day great day it was great era that time. Still going with the same lads today minus a few who have passed on .similar experience the year after in the fa cup

My late father, my uncles, and their friends, all from Moss Side and Hulme, went down in a few car loads. I was born in 1970 so way before I ever got took to see City. Dad talked about those days endlessly and, despite our terrible run from in the 80s and 90s, was the eternal optimist. When I used to moan about how bad things got he would always tell me we would be great again. Unfortunately he passed in 2007 (the last game he watched was Blsckburn away in the quarters of the FA cup from his hospital bed). He would have absolutely loved Pep.

As a 17 year old at the time not good ones I’m afraid as I got bladdered and woke up in a police cell at 10pm. Fined £3 for D&D, apparently I wandered on the pitch during play.
