Men in Black

A European affectation but one, I thought, Crystal Palace transplanted to England. Its appeal then spread elsewhere.

No; not the last film I saw. Just watching the St Mirren vs Rangers game before the proper football starts later on*. And there was a shot of a bunch of young St Mirren fans in the obligatory head to toe black garb. A lot of clubs have these wannabe hard guys in their fanbase. I was just wondering; when did this craze kick in? Back in the eighties, it was all Fred Perry, Lacoste, Fila and Sergio Tacchini gear. And the more garish the better (certainly not black). And in the 70s, it was flared jeans, DMs and shirts a size too small.

When CCTV became more prevalent. Harder for the Police to ID.

The original idea was it makes it harder for police surveillance to keep putting the same person at the scene of disorder throughout the day if they’re not wearing distinctive clothing.

Can’t remember when it started. Probably late 90s or early 00s.
Spot on!
