Mentality

And doing both was such a great idea of course

It was the major European football powers do. Neither Bayern, Atleti or Madrid need to prioritise one over the other - and they put in better semi final performances according to the media!

They put in better performances than us. We didn't. In either game. The first priority was securing third or fourth place.

To be fair the shower who spent 90 minutes doing nothing on Wednesday would have rolled over against Southampton as well.

Because - mentality.

The priority was trying to win the Champs League. That's a big part of the reason the Aheikh bought our Club!

So you want to be another Arse competing for third and fourth, rather than be in the San Siro for the Champs League final! Mentality????!!!!

I don't want to drop the huge income that comes from being in it over gambling on beating two top teams. Premiership first, Euro second.

Of course it's a false choice. The proper choice is not playing so badly, not turning up so often, not showing some backbone in the premiership that we end up 'battling' (hah) for fourth in the first place.

It's the only thing that's got me through the last few months to be honest, when it comes to City anyway. After the Rags game, I actually said I wouldn't watch another City Prem game until next season, but alas the sucked me back in and then punched me in the dick with that Southampton performance. I have faith in Pep though, it can't get any worse, right? ;)

Ooooooh, Shev, it can get a bloody sight worse!

Are we the best team in Europe? No
Are we the best team in England? No

Did we have a chance to win the Champions League? Yes, but when push comes to shove this current set of players freeze on the big stage.

Is this thread in aid of Comic Relief?

Bugger me, there are a few people here who don't know what the fuck the game is about.

ONE GOAL! That is what the Madrid game was about..ONE GOAL!!

The players job was to ensure Madrid didn't score more than one, and that we tried all game to create the opportunity for ONE GOAL!

Some of you talking about "mentality" clearly don't understand the club's mentality is NOT to go hell for leather and lose 4-0 in Madrid, but to do exactly what they TRIED to do...keep the game close and try to grab the goal that would put us in the Final.
It's got nothing to do with the Madrid game.
Our lack of enthusiasm and energy has been there for ages...
I would say there are a handful of games this season where we have played to our full potential.
There are clearly far too many passengers in our squad living far too comfortable an existence thanks to a lack of motivation and no fear of the consequences of failure/underachievement.
The manager is 100% responsible for that.

The priority at the start of the season might have been to prioritise the CL. Accept 2nd or 3rd in the PL if it meant a CL final. I very much doubt that the CL was prioritised over a top 4 finish.

We seem to have developed a manana mentality. Defeats are shrugged off because there's always the next week or month. Beating Southampton doesn't matter because if we win the next two games it will be ok.

That mañana mentality is what we are backing Pep to destroy! The nice guy / soft touch season has to be buried and it's not as if we get any verify for eg respecting referees and ex players anyways!
