Messi’s contract at Barca revealed

Why wouldn’t you want the greatest footballer of all time not to come to City. What is your reasoning?
1) Principal: He has openly flirted more than once, inviting interest, only to turn around and stay put.
2) Squad harmony: Potential for harm here. I accept we don’t know for sure but signing someone who will earn millions of pounds a year more than anyone else, and be treated as a superstar by all and sundry is a dangerous chance to take. If he was 26 and signed a 7 year contract it might be worth it but he isn’t and won’t.
3) Age: He is too old now. He is still an excellent footballer but I don’t want to be paying someone 5/600k a week at 34 when we could use this money on someone a lot younger (Harland?)
4) Decline: He is not superhuman and no matter who you are as you get to 34, and onwards to 35 you cannot be the same player you were at 27.
5) Priority: An aging superstar should not be a priority. We need TWO WC forwards to replace Sergio soon and work with Jesus. Tying up tens (or hundreds) of millions on an aging player isn’t a smart use of resources. We still have to work within external financial rules wether we like it or not. There is talk of a ‘separate stash’ for Messi. Doesn’t matter. Money is money and must be accounted for.

One of this clubs key strengths over the years has been a sense of togetherness. It saw us through tight title races 3 times, the UEFA corruption, changes of manager, and A constant slating from the media. Putting a player who now has history at agitating when things don’t go exactly his way into this club risks that togetherness. And lastly, and IMO most importantly:

5) Nobody is biggger than City: Messi clearly believes he is bigger than Barcelona, I cannot countenance allowing anybody to act in a way that shows they think they are bigger than City. Even one of the top 4 or 5 players of the last few years.

That said, the above is only my opinion. I trust the club to do the right thing and make it work Whatever they decide to do. They have got far more correct than not over the last 12 years or so And if they sign him this summer you and I can rest assured they will have a way to make it work.

One positive in favour of signing him is the sheer amount of piss it would boil in the UK. Can you imagine the scousers and filth fans if they had to watch Messi in sky blue? It’d be glorious I admit.

Personally I would trust pep to manage the situation.

Some very pertinent made mate.

really , the irony that you have liked a few of my previous posts and now i am an embarrasment , cluleless , car crash etc etc , perhaps you should have a long look at yourself and your history on this forum attempting to antagonise posters, If i am clueless and you like my posts...............what does that make you ?
You’re embarrassing yourself on this topic. That’s not ironic. Plus a stopped clock is correct twice a day so you’re bound to not talk out of your arse a couple of times a year.

for someone who doesnt want to respond , your not doing very well are you ?
I’ve managed to not reply to two of your arse water posts today where you quote me but that previous one was so crayon eating your stupid that I couldn’t simply ignore it.

I’ll be able to ignore your next reply though as you’re going on ignore. Enjoy barking at the moon if you ever quote me again, I won’t see it. Ta.

As a long standing season ticket holder I can safely say that Messi walking out in a blue shirt on the first home game of next season would rank amongst the greatest moments I’ve seen seen as a City fan.

Reasons to sign him:

1. Messi on the decline is miles better than David Silva was at his peak.
2. One of the best finishers in the history of football. With the chances we create and miss this would be of great need.
3. Brilliant left footed set pieces.
4. His name will help attract big name signings to the club. “Hey Haaland, how do you feel about playing with Messi next season?”
5. All our sponsorships will increase as a result of his association with our football club.
6. Our fan base would increase worldwide as a result of his association with our football club.
7. Fans put off attending games due to the virus getting them out of the habit will instead be hot wheeling back to the stadium.
8. He’s still one of the best players in the world even at 33.
9. Teams will be shit scared of us and we’ll be the biggest draw in football for opposition fans.
10. Our standing as a club will be bigger than ever and more people than ever will want to come to our games.

One positive eh?

There isn’t a club in the world which would turn down Messi if they could afford to have him. Your reasoning is also why you will never have anything to do with running a football club.

Kind Regards

Ok. Each to their own.

How the fcuk does Messi manage on that wage ffs
Because he's making others millions. I know we all like to harp on about daft wages in football but the money these footballers make for others is huge, and the idiots paying for it is us(unless you go snide and use a River). To be honest I'd rather it go to a footballer than some fat knob in a suit. Given the choice though, I'd rather less money in footy to begin with. The whole set up is one big boy's club with bollocks PR to cover all their arses.
