£120 million deal c/w £800k wages. This is what I was told, not getting into any arguments on here as I've learnt not too. We shall see come January.

With respect, "I was told" isn't entirely convincing when there's no indication of who you were told by. A drunk bloke in the pub? Messi's agent?

Fucking weird that. I was told the same transfer fee, but his starting wage would be £350,000 a week, but with a massive deal on his image rights (could be worth up to £500,000 a week). If it goes through it would be massive.....

Not a cat in hells chance of this happening, more chance of us finally getting Mido and Van Buyten.

A music video and a proliferation of animated gifs would perhaps reduce some of the scepticism as to the veracity of this rumour.

Sunday Mirror exclusive with Simon Mullock renewing the rumours.

Still don't believe it will happen but it's probably the strongest the rumour has been.

I think Messi is the best player in the world without a doubt but even I wouldn't spend that much on a player who will be 30 by then.

Age will be the only worry but if your going to spend that much then putting it on arguably the best player of all time reduces that risk. A couple of good years, league title/champions league title and the spend would be justified. Add to that seeing Messi in a City shirt would be an unbelievable sight.

The thing with Messi is that he'll be better than Silva was in his prime when he's 35 if he has to become that sort of player.

Even without his pace his finishing and passing is top notch.

I think the marketing and endorsements he'd bring to City would offset any transfer fee and then some. He's the best player of all time and it probably wouldn't cost us anything in the grand scheme if we paid 300m.

Still don't see it happening, but hard not to get excited about the thought.

If messi signs in January I might explode more than @BluePhil8 did when trump won the election
