Mesut Ozil: David Villa insulted my religion

Just seen reports floating about, that David Villa insulted Ozil's religion. If its true, then Villa for me has just made himself look stupid and not only that my admiration for the player has just decreased.

Update : Ozil does not have any official Twitter account, claims teammate Khedira. Thus, no official statement is made by Ozil against Villa.

17th August, 2011: A Lionel Messi double inspired European and Spanish champions Barcelona to a 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Real Madrid in their Super Cup second leg clash here Wednesday and a 5-4 aggregate win.

The bad feeling between the two sides boiled over at the end of the match which saw three players —Marcelo, Mesut Ozil and David Villa— getting sent off.

The injury time of the second leg saw a rather bizarre scuffle between 2 players: David Villa and Mesut Ozil. Completely differing from the likes of Gennaro Gattuso, Joey Barton and co., Ozil has always remained humble on and off the pitch. One gets staggered to see a player of such a modest caliber lose his head out of outrageous fury.



Sportpulse takes you back to the scene explaining why Ozil exploded in the closing stages of the match.



According to [Football.Fr] Real Madrid player Mesut Ozil was quoted, “I did this because I was defending my religion because David Villa insulted Islam.” referring to his actions against Villa at the closing minutes brawl at the Super Cup.

It appeared in TV video clips that David Villa hit Mesut Ozil first and the German international retaliated. The brawl was the reaction when Cesc Fabregas was tackled helplessly by Marcelo right at the closing minutes of the game as players from both the benches got off to wrestle each other.

Villa and Ozil’s actions will be subject to either one-game or three-game bans from the Supercopa.

"We are going to have to be very careful and calm down the play on the pitch, because this type of match will finish really badly one day," Guardiola said during a post-match press conference. If Villa really said what Ozil is blaming him for, I would recommend Guardiola to stop philosophizing about the future of the El Classico and start working with his players. He might want to start with some basic ethic classes.



So there you have it. David Villa, one of the so-called best strikers in the world, tried to offend Real Madrid's player Mesut Ozil because he's a Muslim and said bad things about his religion. Does that have a place in football, or even in humanity?

That's a load of nonsense. So are you suggesting that the moment Villa insulted Ozil he should've paused for a second and thought ''hmm, i better not react because i play for a pro nazi fc (what ever truth there is to that)?''.
I doubt Ozil even knows about this alleged Nazi thing with his club you're talking of. Just because you don't like the religion doesn't make whatever Villa said right and no, i'm not a muslim.

As far as I can gather when it comes to Real Madrid and Franco, the story goes that Franco supported Athletico because of their connections to the Spanish airforce. This only changed when Real Madrid became an international success and the regime got hold of the idea of using them as a propaganda tool to boost the prestige and pride of Spain which had a poor international image because of Franco. Whether Real fans embraced that I'm unsure.

As for Barcelona, I think it represents Catalonia. Catalonia absolutely opposed Franco as did Barcelona as a club and so did its fans. Franco was for Espanyol in the region who represented more the middle class and conservative supporters of the regime.

It's not true. It's not in a single media outlet, apart from this obscure website, and even they have added an update to the effect that Ozil apparently has no twitter account.

I really can't understand how so many people so often get so carried away by tweet or two from some random person. It's not even as reliable as a rumour put about by some bloke down the pub, because you'd be able to see his face.
