This is what should happen, making something illegal doesn't stop people taking it. Anyone could get any drug within a few hours. If it was legal you could control the quality and educate people about the use. As has already been said on here, problems arise through the mixing of drugs, alcohol and other drugs. Anyone taking a new drug for the first time is relliant on word of mouth for advise and the fact that the drug could be a different strength to anything they have taken before is what causes problems.
Most drugs can be taken safelly if they are used responsibly.

Do you drink? Cos that's a drug mate. Saying drugs are the most pointless things on earth is one of the most narrow minded comments I've heard. They're dangerous, some can be life shattering, but a lot are no more harmful that alcohol and tobacco. It's all about education and awareness- which methrdrone doesn't currently have seen as our government don't really have a clue what it is. I even read in the paper today that it has similar highs to cocaine and ecstasy- well they're both quite different for a start! Our government recently sacked the scientific head that looks into the dangers of drugs over his scientific based comments that ecstasy should be downgraded- we shouldn’t be putting publicity ahead of scientific based research!

As far as I’m aware Methadrone is a scientifically modified strain of MDMA. It’s therefore likely to have the same dangers- ie don’t mix with alcohol for a start. I’d put money on them lads that died were on a drinking binge whilst also doing it. And unfortunately its that lack of education and awareness that can have drastic consequences. Also the fact that it’s legal makes people think it is safe to do whatever. You wouldn’t be on strong painkillers and go on a 48hr binge would you. It’s the same principle with drugs.

It is not narrow minded, at all and yes, I do drink but not a lot.

For a lad who's lost a few people I know due to drug taking, I think I have the right to have an opinion on drugs.

Take weed for example, that has an effect on you physically and mentally, why do you think they are illegal? They are illegal for a reason, they are dangerous and harm people.

Same with cocaine, LSD etc...

Ha ha not at all. As far as 'drug taking' goes I used to do it a lot at uni, but now I'm older and more settled (I guess the word is, can't even remember the last time I went clubbing) I very rarely do drugs. I have however done methadrone maybe three or four times in my life. It's not much different to ecstacy and should be illegal under the same drugs remit that ecstacy is illegal. My point was that your calling illegal substances pointless except you drink responsibly and I imagine have had some good nights drinking with friends? So why can’t a responsible adult have an enjoyable night on a different type of drug?

Yes they all have dangers I wasn’t disputing that. As you mentioned you have first hand experience of friends dying due to drugs and it’s experiences like that which can scare you and are truly horrific. A friend of mine also died and although his death wasn’t a direct cause of drugs, his decision making which lead to his death was obviously influenced by drugs. But does that mean there aren’t certain social benefits to them? My point is all drugs are different and can't be lumped under a comment that 'drugs are the most pointless things on earth.'

Not all drugs are pointless, most are, but not all so I shouldn't have said that. Methadone apparently has a positive influence on people quitting Heroin, so it does have a good side but also has it's bad sides, as you have mentioned.

Social benefits and drugs is stupid, I'd much rather stay safe and healthy than gain a bit of street cred by taking a few lines and smoking a few spliffs.

Weed isnt addictive like alcohol is, its a lifestyle drug that can easily be stopped with a change of lifestyle. How many cannabis anonymous help groups are you aware of?
