Micah Richards the pundit

Completely disagree with the criticisms on Micha's own personal views, based on his own personal experiences and how he sees things. Michael Holding and Ebony Rainford-Brent wont have the same experiences as Micah. One person is from a different generation completely, the other a different gender. Both are from different sports, who grew up, lived and worked in a different areas. Their interviews were also taken at the start of July and touched on the George Floyd aspect which was still very raw(that context is important).

I'm not having this: "He did a shit job because he didn't cry enough or make me cry" talk either. Deary me. He gave some original angles on the matter at the very least. I agree with what he said about how some white people feel attacked, although he could have said it better I guess(I got his point though). That's the reason some people lash out at BLM, not because they are racists, they have this idea that it's some agenda to say all white people are racist. That's a pretty balanced view from his position when you think about it.

As a pundit, for me he's enthusiastic, has charisma(which most of them don't have lets face it), speaks from the heart and I can see he is working at his craft(knowledge, communication etc). So he will get better over time. I don't mind seeing him on the telly at all and get the feeling a few stuck up blues are weirdly embarrassed by him. To which I'd say: Grow a pair, he's fine.

It's nice to have a refreshing, honest, considered take on it.
 
For me Micah is a breath of fresh air, ok he's not incredibly articulate but he speaks from the heart.
His little speech on the subject of racism was emotional, if you're black, it's an emotional subject.
He comes across as a sincere and very likeable guy.
I like that.
 
Micah is very average as a pundit but he will get better with experience and I’m glad he is on in our corner. Sky have changed direction with the punditry in the last few years where they have moved from attempted unbiased punditry to cheerleaders having banter with each other because they think it makes good tele, Since Carragher came in really because he couldn’t hide his bias. Nevilles punditry has changed in that time too because when he first came in for the first few years he was very very fair with us infact he was over glowing at us on occasions which I know riled United fans up at times.

Many years ago my son and l drew level in the Tesco car Park in Handforth with a little open top Lotus (a car not a yoga position). Its was like swearing at a choir boy and girl and it still embarrasses me to this day, although my son loves to recount it.
Having said that l would love to do that to certain others, mainly pundits with Martin Tyler leading the field.

Let's just play it out;

You're driving passed the McDonald's going towards the ASDA at COMS (not even called that anymore is it?), anyway queuing up for a happy meal with his Mrs in a 2 seated Porsche convertible (the car not the yoga position) is Rat-Boy along with Mrs Rat-Boy.

You can hear that he is playing Fairground by Simply Red and is tapping his fingers to the beat of the song on the steering wheel. The car is at the end of the queue far enough out to encroach your path to said ASDA providing you the perfect opportunity to slow down / stop.

Because he is an ex blue we have to like him? Don't understand that view.

I have said many times, the guy seems a very decent human being, but in my opinion , at this time, is not a very good pundit. A pundit should give opinions, and in terms of ex players, tell the audience their view of a game from a players perspective. Souness and Neville do this very well in my opinion. People like Redknapp and Richards and co give little or no insight into anything. Ashley Cole is another, truly awful, illiterate and contributes nothing.

Well I don't understand how you got a view that nobody said. I said myself he needs improvement, he's at the start of his pundit career and he's much younger than most of them. As for what you seemingly think is the only job of a pundit, he attempts all of that(it's disingenuous to say he doesn't) but as I said he does need to work on that part of his craft(the tactical insight, communication etc)... To me though you're dressing that part of punditry up to be far more than it really is, Neville and Souness aren't saying anything that profound or insightful, they just know how to make their waffle much more palatable, through experience. There's also more sides to it that you're dismissing, a pundit is supposed to be engaging and for the reasons I've already stated in the previous post, he does have a lot of that going for him. You don't have to like him as a pundit either, it's the people calling him shit or illiterate that need to bore off.

As for expecting ex footballers to talk like scholars(which doesn't mean he's illiterate, which is bollocks), perhaps some of us have more reasonable expectations for people who for the most part(there are exceptions) dedicated most of their time/focus on sports growing up. Sky and the likes know what they are getting with Micha and he will get better, so don't worry about it.

In terms of his punditry, he’s new to the gig isn’t he? He will improve but it’ll be hard for him to accepted by the public if people from the club he loves won’t even accept him first.

Seen it mentioned that he didn’t talk from a players perspective but he did exactly that when talking about how he had to mark Traoré in training & the challenges he faced doing just that.

Who won't accept him? His previous club or colour have got nothing to do with anything!

Is he a good pundit? That's the talking point!

Racism and it’s discourse was a major talking point of the last several pages so I was responding to that point of that’s ok?

I’d describe him as a young pundit brand new to the gig. Already showing signs of improvement from his very first appearances and recently given good examples of his mind set when coming up against players like Bale and Traoré.
