There's a 'flappers' thread - try that......................You asked what we thought of Dawson idea - everyone said it was crap. You asked for alternatives and I gave them to you. Move on.
Yeh, nice try. If by 'everyone' you mean 13 out of 23 different posters, then, yeh, 'everyone' said he was crap. And I don't know how much more plain I could have made it, but I was looking for alternatives who might actually be available. Yours couldn't have been less available if you'd chucked in the names Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto. Not rocket science but clearly beyond you
Alright 'silly person' - while appreciating that your sensibility is; 'floating about in space somewhere' -what qualifies as 'available'? What does that mean? How do YOU know who is, or is not 'available'? The only player I know in world football that is 'available' is Joey Barton.....................Come back when you've got back to earth Mr Rocket Scientist, 'cos at the moment you're 'light years' from reality.......................
FFS. 'Available' = club willing/likely to sell, at something constituting a reasonable price, and player willing to come to us. There's scope for a degree of latitude and subjectivity in so much as players you might imagine to be unavailable, might suddenly transpire to be available if a firm enquiry was made, and we will all have varying ideas of what constitutes a reasonable fee, but they are things that can be argued about once those ideas have been revealed, and a common-ish consensus then agreed. In all honesty though I can't square the circle and give you a precise definition of 'available'. No-one could, and I would have thought that was screamingly obvious. What you can do though is use your judgment and common sense. Dawson, whether you want him or not, is by general concensus 'available'. Club wants to sell, and at £9m for an England international, he's reasonably priced. Agger doesn't want to leave and at £27m isn't reasonably priced. Like I said, it isn't rocket science unless you deliberately choose to be pedantic to the
nth degree and make it so. But perhaps you could just be a big boy and let us know whether you think we should pursue Agger at £27m, instead of just blustering?
In all honesty, were it June 1st, I wouldn't have looked twice at Dawson myself, but it isn't, it's August 27th and the window shuts in 4 days. The difficulties in tie-ing up a deal for a high profile centre half (and I would hope that you would at least accept that we need one) at this late stage are well documented. A top European rival wouldn't let someone like Badstuber go to a competitor, and certainly not without having a like for like replacement guaranteed. Those at slightly lower profile clubs, eg Martinez, invariably come with ludicrous buy out prices and/or other strings that we would be mad to involve ourselves with, what with that bastard Platini knocking one out each night at the thought of stiffing us.
Quite frankly it's amazing that anyone bothers to start any kind of thread on this forum with people like you about. I started this one not envisaging Dawson as a stellar buy, who would start every game, but simply as a reasonably priced squad player, who would provide better cover for Kompany and Lescott than either Savic or Toure. That hasn't changed. If you want to disagree, as others have, quite reasonably, because they think he's too old or too slow, great. But instead your first post is straight in with a supercilious "comedy gold" sneer, as though I've suggested a 42 year old, 3ft 4' dwarf, playing in the West Cheshire little persons league and available for £100m, rather than a 28 year old England international, and followed up with more horseshit about 'flapping', and being a 'silly person'. Honestly though? Far simpler if you just bore off
