Michael Johnson v Joe Cole

(C&P)
DH report.

Not a great game by any stretch but good again to see MJ get through 45 minutes and look pretty good.Against a much tougher opposition than last week he again managed to find space and spread the play around and virtually always keeping possession. He produced the pass of the night to split the Pool defence wide open but unfortunately as Nimley raced onto it he pulled a hamstring and that was that. It was a pass alittle like Silva's for AJ last night right down the middle with Nimley cutting across from the left.

Fitness wise no doubt a distance to go as it was only 45 minutes again but I thought he was good. And Mancini was there to see him as well The fact that his son Andreas was also playing might have been part of the reason he was there. I think I can safely say Andreas won't be appearing in the first team. He has a decent touch and whips a good dead ball in but his fitness is a little more like me than it should be.Largely anonymous.

Hard to find a star player tonight. The Pool goal came after tom Smith at right back slipped . We had chances although it seemed we really struggled to create real openings. Nimley missed 2 chances early on and the second one was a really good one but his touch just took him a little wide and he snatched his shot into the side netting. In the second half Guidetti had a couple of chances too. One he snatched wide a la Nimley but his best was after a knock down by Wabarra and after a good first touch he sliced it wide from about 10 yards. He had very little time as he was under pressure but it was a real chance.

McDermott flickered in and out of the game but apart from one good cross onto Nimley's head ( another early half chance) he didnt quite deliver tonight. Defensively not bad although I was a little worried that Pool were allowed to run at the back 4 a few times in the first half as we backed off.

I quite enjoyed the game tonight and thought on occassions there was some good play not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but enjoyed it all the same. I though our best player was john gudetti and caused Liverpool problems regularly.

Saying that I wasn't concentrating on the game 100% as was doing some stuff for the website (so maybe DH's summary is the more accurate) but wasn't too disappointed with what I saw! :)

Cheers Danny.

Guidetti,in your opinion, any closer to the first team bench then or is a second loan more appropriate?

And of course, what was your take on Jonno? improvement over last week?

Assulin hasn't played a competitive match since last year. He's not match fit yet.

ermmmm how do you get MATCH fit then?

I think its something along the lines of playing matches.

He is apparently a week away from full fitness ( not match fitness) and may well be involved in a game after that.

As for guidetti mate from what I've seen last couple of games he has looked really sharp, I actually think he played better this week than last (and he got a couple of goals last week) looked strong good in the air really competitive and works his socks off! Not sure he's ready to be thrown in yet so could definately see him benefiting from another loan spell somewhere!

As for johnno I thought he looked far sharper than last week and the guys first touch and range of passing was a level above anyone else on the pitch. I'm convinced we get this lad fully fit again we have got a serious player on our hands.

did Joe Cole play for them? cos if the above is true with him playing then that's already saying a lot.

Yeah JC played the first half but wasn't massively involved, TBH johnno didn't see a lot of the ball either but had that bit of class about him and was he was involved he seemed to do something with the ball.
