Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

The writing is on the wall, satellite images appear to show Israel has begun preparing the rubble in Rafah for its plan to forcibly displace two million Palestinians into what some UN officials call a ‘concentration camp. The Palestinians will then get the choice leave or stay in a ghetto

But remember we’re not allowed to describe it as genocide, that’s what matters.

Delivering my post the other day like a good postman, coming around a corner, three builders all talking about the middle east problem, setting the world to rights.... quite disgusting what they were saying about Israel and jews, but they joked at me that they hoped I wasnt jewish and heard what they were saying. We laughed but tbh it was awkward. Heard a few other comments in the pub and other places. Anyway, have/are Israel destroying their good relationship with the civilized world right now?

Yes is the short answer.

Its a part of the world with a bad reputation for sectarian violence anyway but sad to say after Oct 7th had Israel gone on say a week - 10 day revenge streak the rest of the world would have just shrugged it off as usual and thought "solves nothing but we are where we are" it would have just have been chalked up as another flare up in the region.

A genocidal rampage plus attacks on Iran and the emboldened actions of illegal settlements plus that Louis Theroux documentary has focused the world on it many in detail when before they were oblivious to what was going on. So right at the time you are doing this to have the world looking and you claiming its a "technical error" is going to make people watch kids in bits, dead medics, journalists and start asking why aren't govt's acting on this. Being against someone killing women and children is being against killing women and children. Has nothing to do with religion so its not antisemitic.

I gave that a like but not all Jews are religious, and some religious Jews are anti-Zionist.

And I may have to brush up on 19th century Jewish anti-Zionism but I think some were predicting that having their own homeland would increase antisemitism.

What civilised world has ever accepted the Jews? Civilsed Europe, including ourselves and most of the EU big hitters, have all contributed to the siege mentality now associated with Israel. Russia (including ultra left wing communists) and much of Eastern Europe enjoyed pogroms (massacres) against the Jews. Ultra right wing Germany and their many, many sypathisers in Western Europe actively took part in the expulsion and execution of Jews via the holocaust. You can almost understand the kneejerk hatred for Jews by left wingers for, what they presumably see as, capitalists on steroids but the hatred from the fascist right as well makes the Jews pretty unique I think. In one of those incredible acts of complete idiocy, that only humans are capable, two groups of people with so much in common have ended up fighting each other, seemingly to the death. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

prior to all this my views were 50/50 or maybe 52/48 pro-Israel. This has changed my views and I know I am far from alone - reports from around the world about other cultures reaction to Israeli visitors are there to be seen and vacation places for IDF soldiers to visit is becoming smaller and smaller.

My dislike falls squarely on Zionists and settlers who's arrogant evil has come to the fore. I have nothing against Jews be they religious or not and yep you can see moderates and Orthodox railing against what is being done in their name and refusing to join up. There have also been attacks on most of the other religions in the country, Orthodox and Christian for example and some ancient religious sites have been damaged and even destroyed by the IDF.

When it comes to people who are Jewish - be they practising or not - or citizens of Israel around the world then sadly they are now in greater danger than they have been in years thanks to the actions of the IDF.

Intelligent people know where the blame lies, the difference between what Netanyahu and his government have done in Gaza and Jewish people who live peacefully side by side with us,
why would they turn their backs if they are heroes?

Because they know Netanyahu has friends in high places and will be fine but when the bill has to be paid for what has happened its these people who will be expected to pay the price. The truth is coming home to them.

The picture looks false AI generated I don’t think Hamas laid landmines?

Sometimes I think we've all gone mad when I see this sort of headline

ITs cause and effect, its bound to happen. But it is cause and effect, nothing else.
Depressing to read. Would be interesting to know whether these are instances of anti-semitism or vehement criticism of the Israeli regime; because there is a distinction, and the two shouldn't be conflated. Calling the likes of Netanyahu and Smotrich evil murdering cunts is not anti-semitism. In the same way calling Hamas evil murdering cunts is not islamophobia.

Most intelligent people realise Netanyahu and his government are the culprits and western leaders are complicit.
Baroness Jones on why “Palestinian Action is not a terrorist organisation and the government has sneaked it in with the other two”

"The Board of Deputies echoed that point, stressing that while freedom of belief is vital...."

Unless you're a Deputy criticising Israeli policy. Then you'll be suspended for your belief.

Antisemitism. Terrorism. Words being emptied of meaning.

I know a tradesman who says he'll get a T-shirt with "I support PA" on it. It's his own initials.

Ex idf soldier who has spent his career studying war crimes and the holocaust calls it a genocide in the new york times:

Someone needs to show all these experts your incredibly informative and accurate graph. It would change everything!

Expert on genocide says it's not genocide. Perhaps you could educate her.
