Middle East Conflict | Netanyahu orders strikes on Gaza (p1161)

When so many terrible things happen, people should realize that what truly guarantees your normal life is actually your country. Westerners often associate concepts like human rights, democracy, and freedom with "whether they can overthrow the government," as if the mere ability of a nation’s citizens to topple any government they dislike means they possess human rights, democracy, and freedom. But for the vast majority of people around the world, the opposite is true. Only a strong state apparatus can genuinely ensure citizens' human rights, democracy, and freedom.
It rather depends on what the strong state apparatus actually does. In practice, rarely does it defend democracy, which is why the American constitution precluded a strong state apparatus with the separation of powers.
The English Bill of rights, the source for so many democratic constitutions around the world including the US, concentrated on limiting the powers of the state apparatus. See also Habeas Corpus.

He's a fucking fruit loop, mate. Best not to indulge.
I think he is an AI bot, launched by the Communist Party of China. This bot, however, has not yet learned to back up any of its nonsense with evidence or examples, which is why nobody on here takes the slightest bit of notice of him.

yes yes communist party of china launched an ai bot to the great manchester city football fans forum fucking politic subforum's middle east conflict thread, very smart move.

I think it depends what he means by "state apparatus". If he means constitution and legal and political frameworks, it's hard to argue a more robust "apparatus" in the US wouldn't have prevented some of the mess they are in. If he means an authoritarian structure, then that may "work" in some countries, but hardly for a majority of the people on the planet. At least, not yet.

Same could be said for 90% of the nonsense posted in off-topic.

Present company excepted, of course :)

Democracy is fragile by nature as it depends on consent. No apparatus is foolproof, but ultimately the weakest point in the US system is the judiciary, as the president determines its membership at the highest levels. SCOTUS has no meaningful ethical rules, no serious oversight and currently is corrupted by politically driven membership.

You and I know exactly which he meant.

The covering up of Israeli intentions in Gaza. Everything the Finance Minister has said Israel has carried out so far but the destruction of the strip is not being discussed total black out on reporting the true nature of what the IDF are doing.
We are going to end up with millions of displaced people

That quote is literally disgusting.

Good job that kind of genocidal rhetoric is a one off, and definitely not common in israel.

But then there's the tv hosts - "100% dead in Gaza … from delivery rooms to the last elderly person in Gaza":

Or Podcasters 'Two Nice Jewish Boys' - "If you gave me a button to just erase Gaza, every single living being in Gaza would no longer be living tomorrow. I would press it in a second"
...and "No one actually gives a shit [about the genocide in Gaza]. Zero people in Israel … Do you care if this baby in Gaza gets polio? They’ll be like, ‘I don’t’ [indistinguishable]. There will be like 20 people who care … Fuck them."
and "You can’t help but think that it’s nice to know that you are dancing in a concert while hundreds of thousands of Gazans are homeless … It makes it even better … more enjoyable concert" Guardian

And another podcaster (Wild that the tweet is still up. It has 5 million views) - "There are no civilians in Gaza. Hamas has drafted everyone, down to the newest babies, into the war effort, and they rejoice when the children they shove into the line of fire die because it's their most powerful weapon against those they hate more than life and blood." Tweet

Then there's the deputy speaker of the Israeli parliament - "They are outcasts and no one in the world wants them," he said, adding that Israel needs to "separate the children and women and kill the adults in Gaza, we are being too considerate." Link

Even eyal berkovic is at it. Regularly

The genocide continues Link (Graphic). Twitter continues to hide videos to suppress it Link (Content is Restricted)

Fair question. We all know the answer though.

It's not just a fair question, it's the only question that matters. Incidentally, a select few on here, a few weeks back, denied a genocide was taking place; they're suspiciously quiet now.

I will say though, diplomatically, the mood music is changing, if only in small gradations. If it continues, then the neo-nazis in the Knesset will ostracize Israel completely. If it's good enough for Russia, it should be good enough for these spineless cowards.

Israel need to be totally ostracised now. Thrown out of all sporting competitions, Banking Sanctions. Total ban on all Israeli products. No airport should have any flights going there either. This is what's happening in Russia and the Israeli goverment are far far worse.
I’ve resigned myself to Israel taking over Gaza without a peep from government or the media, conveniently ISIS has emerged again as a ready excuse for why they had to annihilate Gaza or organisations such as Palestine Action the ground work being laid down as the pictures come in of tent city being bulldozed by the IDF.
