I am told that the best period for Gaza was under Israeli occupation, there was more or less free movement and quite an economic boom

I am not the one putting it in a community’s name - all I keep hearing is this conflict is because Jews needed a home and Israel was given as a home to Jewish community - everyone has already put it in the name of the Jewish community. Not me.

Isn't Israel claiming that it is doing it on behalf of the world's Jewish community though?

That doesn't make it true, because Israel doesn't have the right to claim that. But it clearly doesn't help Jews outside Israel just going about their lives.

I am worried for the journalists and film crews in Gaza who the Israeli Government seem to have decided are enemies. I hope it's not true but i fear the chaos in Gaza will be used to kill more journalists, alongside the terrible civilian suffering.

I was taught to "cite your sources". I suppose I could just have said "Arab opposition to Zionism was understandable" but that might not have gone down well with those who think anti-Zionism was down to antisemitism (or think "Zionist" is an insult). So it seemed better to justify an argument by citing a Zionist who could see a problem that many others at the time (or since) could not.

I could have '"cut and paste" Ahad Ha'am's hopes of finding common cause with the Arabs (descendents of Shem like the Jews) or just linked to his full article (behind an academic paywall). He did go on to support setting up a Jewish homeland in Palestine (not necessarily a Jewish state) but perhaps I won't bother risking any actual quotes.

Essentially, I'm trying to see both sides. And "they started it" is just too simplistic.

No, I don’t blame Israel for shooting down any rockets but I am sceptical that they are shooting down rockets in Gaza itself rather than over Israel

I don't believe it.I have already said that they don't have the right to claim it. It doesn't stop Israel claiming it though.

Most of the world's Jews do not live in Israel.
