“Israel has signed off on the latest US ceasefire proposal for Gaza before it was sent to Hamas, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday.

US president Donald Trump and special envoy Steve Witkoff submitted the proposal to Hamas after Israel signed off on it, she said.

“I can also confirm that those discussions are continuing, and we hope that a ceasefire in Gaza will take place so we can return all of the hostages home,” Ms Leavitt said at a briefing.

Asked if Hamas had accepted the proposal, she said, “Not to my knowledge”

On this genocide nonsense. In 1945 the allies bombed Dresden, a city insignificent for the most part strategically, over 3 days they/we killed 25,000 Germans, including women and children. Think about that, that's 25,000 in THREE days of bombing with 1945 bombs. The Israelies have far greater fire power than the Allies did in 1945 but have somehow 'only' killed 55,000 in over a year and half of bombing.

Quite a bit of detail in these articles. Hamas announced earlier in the week that they had accepted a framework put to them by Witkoff which the Israelis rejected out of hand. Witkoff blamed Hamas for making unacceptable demands by agreeing to his own plan, same old routine.

The new draft appears to remove, or at least water down any commitment to something more long term and sustainable. I remember when Western politicians used to say there is no point calling for a ceasefire unless it was sustainable. As ever they say it out loud.

Soon after the Witkoff draft was circulated, Israeli officials told several Hebrew language news outlets that the vague language in the draft would allow Netanyahu to resume the war after 60 days. A senior Israeli official, according to Ha’aretz, suggested that “U.S. officials deliberately crafted ambiguous language around the issue of ending the war to make the deal acceptable to both sides,” pointing out that the proposal “does not include a demand for Israel to end the war or withdraw from Gaza.”

Speaking to YNet, Israeli officials said securing a partial deal for half the remaining living and dead captives is a victory for Israel that increases the chance of another partial deal because Hamas’s bargaining power will be reduced. “If there is an opportunity for a temporary ceasefire to return additional hostages, I would like to emphasize: We are ready for a temporary ceasefire,” Netanyahu said on May 21.

Well, I guess it depends on what you read and believe, as it’s apparently been rejected due to the fact it doesn’t lead to an end to the war, but a 60 days ceasefire.

Ah, the WW2 card.

WW2 and wars before WW2 were during colonialists times when nations were not united by diplomacy. Of course there were atrocious fights using analog and imprecise weaponry.

This is the 21st century. We the world has established after WW2 the United Nations.

Yet the amount of bombs on Gaza is equal to if not more than 5 nuclear bombs, and still ongoing.

There you have it. While the West waffles on about a 2 state solution, Israel is never going to allow that to happen.

The West surely know this and are therefore participating in this organized farce, which is undertaken to give the public worldwide the false idea that there is a fair outcome likely some time down the road

In reality it just gives Israel cover to continue it's barbarism.

If there's going to be another (pointless) temporary ceasefire israel will just reload and concentrate on the west bank - is the 22 settlements there and talk of a ceasefire at the same time linked? There'll be a dirty trick somewhere that's for sure

In the ceasefire earlier this year israel violated it hundreds of times and killed over a hundred people. They stole more of people's houses on the west bank, before blowing the ceasefire completely on march 18th when they massacred hundreds of people.

Never going to be any peace until the Settlers have been fucked off totally out of the West Bank. It seems there's less than Zero percent chance of that happening.

Should of been nipped in the bud years ago with Sanctions and banned from every possible sporting event or any other competion.
