i'm not sure this is going to add much to the thread but i'll tell it anyway.

morocco is a fairly conservative muslim country,
but always had a significant number of jewish inhabitants for 2,000 years or so.

when israel was founded 275,000 jews left to go and live there.

where i live, essaouira, is the most liberal and open-minded place in the country.
nobody gets any shit whatsoever for their religion or lack of it.
residents and visitors alike.

there aren't many jews living in essaouira any more
(i'd guess there are more rastafarians)
but the 2 jewish cemeteries are well-maintained, as is the synagogue.
(and so is the christian cemetery and catholic church).

when the jews here left for israel they gave/donated their homes to the poorest people in the community.

if i have a point, it is this...

the demonstrations here are not anti-israel,
they are simply pro-palestine.
