I can't be the only one reading this to be staggered by how low these numbers are? Is this it? According to this my line manager gets a higher salary than the Israeli lobby donates to the entire stack of UK politicians. The way people talk about it I thought we were talking massive numbers - like tens of millions.

Let's not forget Boris Johnson described a £250k salary as "chicken feed" - obviously a crass and totally out of touch statement - but he wasn't lying - to these people (some of them at least) that is chicken feed. A £2k donation to a cabinet member wouldn't even cover flight and accommodation to a conference in the US, let alone have any bearing on somebody's campaign for re-election to office.

Either:
1) Our elected officials are the cheapest people to bribe in world history
2) This article is way off base and the numbers in reality are actually far higher but we don't see them
3) These donations just aren't that big compared to other donors

I don't really know the answer. To be clear - I think donations and lobbying are the scourge of politics and I think we should do everything in our power to eliminate the impact of them.

I just think in the way we say that politicians are out of touch with ordinary folk, this article seems similarly out of touch with the world inhabited by London's politicians. These numbers alone will not see anybody "in the pocket" of any lobbying group - not even close.

Whilst I agree with the sentiments of your post, I think you’re being a bit naive about Iran.

Because they didn't spent much time on Hamas, they never thought they would be able to do an attack like that, they concentrated on Iran and Hezbollah for two decades.

I am almost certain we could see a TV series "The Iranians" or "The Persians" about Mossad raised and trained couple(s) living in Iran, waiting for the moment. I was lucky to visit both countries when ME was much more peaceful - yes that was such time - and I can swear some of them, particularly the one wearing glasses, could pass for each other.
