Middle East Conflict

Because he’s lived there and it’s true?
I'm honestly surprised that you say this. South Africa is very violent and effed up in a lot of ways, as I know you know given that you (like me) have a family connection to the place. But the idea that there is a "genocide" taking place there just doesn't bear any relationship to the definition of the word. The implication that white people in particular are victims of this "genocide" is a far right talking point (though I guess this is maybe not what blueinsa is saying) and is similarly afactual given that as in most places in the world the people most at risk of crime are the poor - which in SA means black people, especially nationals of other African countries. As I said, it's a very effed up and violent place (as it has been for centuries, not just since 1994) which I have visited many many times, but the site of a genocide? Nah.

Over half a million murder victims since 94.

As you say though eh? Nah…

What I thought I was making clear but I’m happy to state explicitly is that the number of people killed is not what defines a genocide. But to be honest, I regret responding at all.

Not just a family connection, my main home.

Annexing the Gaza Strip was always the plan - they just needed an excuse to start in. Netanyahu is facing so much shit at home I'd guess we were nearing the point when a Palestinian running over an Israeli's dog by accedent would have been taken as excuse enough to start it

Yep. 1139 pages and all I have to say, is that I'm beginning to think I don't like either side.
I stumbled upon this just before Christmas:

and it depressed me greatly, especially given when it was filmed, namely a year ago. That doesn’t mean I don’t have huge sympathy for the sentiments (and accept it might not be the most scientific of polls, or that some of those answering felt they had no option but to answer in that way) of the people being interviewed. I think Palestinians are entitled to believe that the land was taken from them. Most certainly no one appeared to consider them when forming the State of Israel. And it’s also correct that the way they have been treated over the last 75 years is reprehensible at best. In fact I think it’s correct to say that it’s a stain on humanity, but then so was what caused the State of Israel to be formed in the first place. Another example of people being cunts.

But the reality is that Israel is there as a matter of fact. And people have lived there for generations and removing the State of Israel from existence simply isn’t going to conceivably happen, given the US and European position on that. So rather than accept reality, and live in peace, they would appear to prefer a state of perpetual war. And I don’t doubt you would find similar sentiments among many Israeli settlers.

I fear there is no answer to this that doesn’t involve huge suffering on one side or the other. Or both. Both sides have been so cunty to each other that there is no conceivable way of reconciling them. You only have to look at the utterly terrible way that the settlers on the West Bank behave to realise that this is a base, atavistic dispute that reduces people to the realm of territorial animals - on both sides.

There are good people on both sides, of course there are, but the reality is that the conflict is being, and has been, conducted by cunts on both sides; cunts who appear to retain the broad support of their relative constituencies. That is also depressing.

It’s sadly all too indicative of why we will ultimately destroy ourselves as a species. Because we are cunts.
