I guess it’s how you read the article. Every instance of antisemitism is wrong but this must be amongst the lowest numbers for any type of crime in the U.K.

Well there are only 300,000 Jews in the UK, and for the most part, those people are not visibly a minority in the same way that others might be. That's why it is often attacks on Jewish businesses or places of worship.

The inference from these stats (and any racism / religious discrimination is really shitty behaviour) is that more resources should be thrown at those crimes. I’d rather the police and the courts focus on murders, violent assaults, rapes etc.

When any crime is in such low numbers , it only takes a handful of additional cases to be able to say eg crime has gone up by a quarter. That’s just the nature of the stats and I’m not labelling anything you said.

I’m just grateful for living in a very tolerant society.

42% of religious hate crimes in the UK are islamophobic and the numbers will likely increase unfortunately. The number of antisemitic crimes will also rise sadly, it's a given with this going on.

23% of victims are Jewish. There are around 3 million Muslims in the UK. There are around 300,000 Jews. So around half the number of cases despite being a tenth of the population. Not that it's a competition. Arguably they both feed off each other, because nobody is victimizing Sikhs or Hindus to the same extent despite both having sizeable populations.

I don't know about the recent increase, but the overall number of anti-semitic attacks in the UK is astonishing. 23% of all religiously-motivated hate crimes going towards a population that represents just 0.43% of the population. 42% going to a population that are just 4.4% of the population (Muslims) isn't much better.

Increasingly it’s clear that some posters in his thread just want to throw petrol on the fire and have everything devolve into slinging insults at each other.

While this is undoubtedly true, a few words in support of this thread and all the lunatics on it: I get some of my news from MSM, of course, but there is little on there that is discussed in-depth as things are on here. It's remarkable that a football forum can provide a "public service" in reflecting the views of a cross-section of the population, including even people who have experienced both sides of the conflict personally.

There are trolls and cunts, of course, but every now and then, there are posts that contain interesting and new information. Sometimes thought-provoking. It's a good barometer, it can be informative and, for me, at least, it is useful, warts and all. So well done to @Ric and all the mods for doing their best to keep this particular ship on an even keel in difficult circumstances.

89 reported incidents between the 7th and 10th October.

I’d say that’s significant and not fear mongering.
