Midfield

I think the Mariga and Gago deals were probably the 2 January signings that we needed most. We need 2 athletic midfielders either side of De Jong/Barry in the centre. Having 2 midfielders who are genuinely box to box would make a massive difference to our style imo and we would be clearly 4th

Gago is really not upto it imo, mariga could of been useful but tbh when we do our summer shopping i really hope we get well known top drawer midfielders.

Me too mate, just think that even though Mariga and Gago aren't world beaters, we could have done with them in our push to 4th. With these 2 i just couldn't see our midfield being over-run like in past games

The last couple of months we've got 5 wins, 2 losses and 3 draws.

Maybe we're not getting away with, maybe it's more effective than you would have people believe.

Fixer? these aint top draw yet, and may never be, show us the plenty.

This is where we are lacking badly. Vieria and De Jong were our best pairing tonight and that is not good enough as a collective midfield for a top side.

with the players we have we cannt play 4-4-2 and have two players in the middle of the park who dont attack

if we do all they have the opposition have to do is stop our wingers and then we are stuck

we are relying on tevez or ade to drag us into games by moments of individual brilliance (like chelski)

yes we won 3-0 and a great result it is and thank god for that

we will hopefuly beat burnley playing that way

but come up against the better teams and we wont

it is far far too predictable and pedestrian football

I really don't know what you mean. With Ireland out tonight, Mancini was left with only defensive central midfielders to pick from. Bearing this in mind, a 4-4-2 to utilize our attacking players seemed like the best option. What would you have done? Gone with 4-3-3 with THREE defensive midfielders? Hang on - wasn't everyone criticizing him for this earlier in the season?

im aware ireland was out tonight....nothing mancini could do about that.....but putting barry in place of viera would have been a better option

mancini has had numerous oportunities to not play 2 or even 3 defensive midfielders and still gone for it....yes he had little choice tonight but he has had before

tevez won us the mat h tonight....not mancinis management or team selection

Lol marek hamsik is fcuking class son, you telling me we can't get better than fcuking Gago?? I appreciate the fabregas/xavis are out of touch but we can get better than Gago son.

We've already got an amazing midfield in de Jong & Ireland.

When de Jong finds his composure and starts to control the game on a more consistent basis and Ireland finds his form/balls/drive & enthusiasm of last year, I can't see a premiership midfield duo better.

The problem is, it's not the right time to start offering out regular roles just in case.

VIEIRA
Successful tackles - 5 of 5
Completed passes - 55 of 70
Shots on target - 1 of 1
Assists - 1

DE JONG
Successful tackles - 5 of 5
Completed passes - 41 of 45
Shots on target - 0 of 0
Assists - 0

So Vieira had a superior game in all aspects except passes going astray, but as most of his were forward and attempts to set up attacks, it's understandable. It's easy to complete passes if they are all sideways and backwards.

Never mind the facts, though. Carry on with the bullshit.

confirms to me what I saw tonight, he gave the ball to the opposition too many times, 15 occasions goin off your stats, and I guarantee most of them where in his own half. He looked ok when he came on against Everton, but tonight he was pretty dire apart from a couple of decent passes in the 2nd half, after one poor pass in 2nd half Mancini immediately told Barry to warm up, he was def close to bringin him off.

Cheer fucking up.....You must a bit daft if you think we are going to play that formation against Arsenal, Spurs and Utd. You are the most depressing man on planet earth. :)

Viera was the only one trying to pick a forward pass and some of his one touch stuff under pressure was great, then again that's not what Nig is in the team for - the balance doesn't look right

again you fail to see the bigger picture....Im happy we won but we are playing poorly and tonight was another example.....

we got away with it tonight cause they went down to 10 men...until that we were very average at best....play this way against better teams and we will lose or draw more than we win

oh and since your so fond of stats....2 loses in a month....isnt that more than MH had in 4 months???? ;-)

Vieria showed today just how past it he is. Playing for a contract for next year no chance. Passing was poor all day and was slow at getting about the pitch.

i thought viera wasnt at his best, but he was the only one putting balls through the middle, oh and i would like, two fullbacks, a playmaker and a goal scorer please.

It's not about how many games you lose, it's about how many points you achieve.
