talking of taking a kicking in the 60s, i got to the bottom of the stairs after the game and walked straight into big jack charlton.. now an old man and quite frail...don,t partc like him, but just drunk on the heady atmosphere i shouted hello jack and went over and shook his hand.
he must have been hurting inside but took the attention from the drunken city fans around him very well.

A few years ago we were going to a game in the early Sven days (Derby midweek at the start of tyhe season). Was there with the family so we had some littler ones with us. Had tickets in NS Level 2, but somehow got up to one of the coprpoaret levels. Wecam thru the dorr and Mike S is standing there. A real gent chatted to the kids and helped us find our way to where we needed to go.
I also had the peleasure os speaking to Colin Bell at a game a few years back. He explained that Mike was his minder. He protected him throughout the game and was alway happy to get a few digs in. He also recounted the story of Mike blowing his nose on the Old Trafford corner flags in forn ot the Stetford End.
