Mikel Arteta

I think they would want someone with more experience to be honest. Being a No 2 is hugely different than being in the hot seat at one of the worlds biggest clubs. Anyway we shouldn’t be talking like this as Pep is staying for a while yet.
I see exactly what you are saying, and cannot disagree.
Probably, the club would prefer to get someone with experience and a proven track record at the highest level. The difficulty I think is that these 'people', that is managers at the highest level, that are willing to change clubs, don't come around at the right time generally speaking. If the right person is available at the right time, then great. Otherwise, give the right hand man a go (although I admit that this has an element of 'Give it to Giggsy' about it !!!)

Maybe put Arteta in the job and have Pep elsewhere in the organisation!

Pep wasn't experienced... Zidane wasn't experienced...lots of successful managers have come through youth football and been given a shot at first team management in Germany too. Arteta knows how City work, he knows how Pep works and he is already trusted to a high level. He will have his own ideas but will follow Pep's mentality closely so it could be a good transition.

If not Arteta then Germany would be the place to monitor. They seem to have a vast number of high quality coaches destined for big things and the style of football in Germany is closely aligned to the premier league.

We shouldn’t forget, Guardiola was 37 when he was handed the role as first team coach at Barça. I don’t think Arteta’s experience will be a concern nor will it be his technical capability. It will boil down to his ability to lead, to convince, to motivat.

What's Brian Horton doing these days?

We played some entertaining, attacking stuff under Brian, to be fair ... I have fond memories of those times.

My worry about Arteta is that he seems serious / quiet / hardworking ... but does he have the charisma to manage all the top stars at City? That's one thing that Pep can't teach him / pass on ?
