Dave Ewing's Back 'eader said:I think this affects a lot of players who spend more than a minute or two wondering about how much they cost and what level of quality they can offer the fans. James is one of the most hardworking players at the club but not one who can make the ball sing, like David Silva does or Dave Ewing did, but an honest pro who works his bollox off, and sometime this season I am sure we will see the consistency he demonstrated at Villa.
Not really. Played well against Liverpool, and that wasn't a 442. Just needs some luck and a good run of games. Agreed that he does better in the middle thoughNtini77 said:Still can't see how he's going to make it here.
Only seems to play well when in a 4-4-2 and played in the middle.

it was just his day today
Not strictly true.
Last time he played there he was part of a formation that still had two defensive midfielders. Today we had one.
Milner played for the first time today as one of a midfield two, with two wingers, and it suited him down to the ground because he was given a free licence to roam.
Unfortunately, the switch in tactics in the second half all but nullified him except for the run that instigated NDJ's chance.
If we are ever going to get the best out of Milner, two out of the Barry-De Jong- Y.Toure connection will have to go. Cup games apart, that is not going to happen.
leighton said:A mixed bag for me with Milner yesterday. Took the goal well a good assit for Tevez cleared the ball from the line first half he was good. Second half he wasnt at it at all. His passing still needs to improve hes alright but can do alot better in the games than what he is doing at the moment. Needs to continue to work hard but so far during his time at the club he hasnt hit the levels of his time at Villa. Didnt do enough to hold onto his place in the team for the Wolves game this coming weekend.

The problem in the second half was that he was shoved out onto the left wing... while Vieira kept his place in the middle, in spite of offering absolutely nothing to the team.
I understand Vieira "needs games", but not at the expense of the far better Milner methinks...
