Milners chance to shine tonight.

As others have said his work rate, stamina and persistence are excellent. I think at the moment though he needs to improve his decision making and concentration. There have been a number of instances where promising attacks have ended when he has played a sloppy ball which should have been simple to execute. I’m not convinced he’s the best at seeing the game around him because he quite often chooses the wrong option although some of this could be down to a lack of confidence. The style of play at city appears to have been a bit of a culture shock for him and he’s going to need time but I think we’ll be prepared to give it him.

Just on a different point, I’ve read a few posts writing off Nimely, I wouldn’t be so hasty. He struggled to get into the game last night but in my eyes he showed enough to suggest he could be a useful player. When he had the ball he looked to move it quickly and to the right man. Other occasions he took up good positions but his team mates didn’t use him. He’s only 19, I’d certainly persevere with him.

well he failed

He failed because he basically lacks pace to be a winger, and isnt skillful enough to be a central midfielder.
I've been getting stick for this analysis and suggesting he could find gainful employment as a fullback..........he did it for England briefly and i thought he looked good.

His biggest problem is his lack of passing ability. I know others on here are big fans of Barry whereas I feel he has some huge limitations, but at least with Barry he is a good passer of the ball and rarely gives the ball away. This is the minimum that is required in a Mancini team that wants to keep possession. Milner gives the ball away far too often and that is why for me he has gone from a regular in the side to getting 3 minute cameo appearances in the Prem and games in the Europa League!

I agree with you there and I think that's why AJ doesn't get a regular start

To be honest both Milner and Barry have failed to come up to standard since there moves from Villa to us. Just my view but the thing we must look at was in both cases we were the only team interested in both players. So if that dosent tell you something you will be a bit worried about those players in the long term. Yes Milner has years more left on him but Barry doesnt. Then again Milner has played since what age 16 he has played well over 250 games so far thats some going for a player of his age. Maybe he wont hit the levels that people thought he would hit when he first made the break into the Leeds team but with football anything can happen.

Not sure i agree with you on Barry pal, he's dong well for us at the moment and fills that LH side of midfield very well IMO...

IMO he over tried last night, did well but tried to much.

far better player in the centre, granted he can ping a football, played some stunning cross field balls last night.

always an option for us if silva is tired or injured, not as creative obviously but he can pass and can smash a ball, he can deliver a defence splitting pass.

given time and settling in more, he will improve.

Milner had 1 half decent season last year scored goals from set pieces and a few from open play but being English he was hyped to fuck and City took the bait. To be honest we got rid of Ireland in the deal and neither have hit it off this season. We would of been better off holding onto Ireland and saving all that money for someone else. He has been Mancini worst signing.

You think Mancini signed Milner because he was hyped! Isn't it more likely that Mancini is an astute judge of a player and saw qualities in Milner which he thought would be valuable for City? And don't you think Milner ought to be allowed some time to adjust? For example when Kolo Toure first started playing for us he was slagged rotten. We don't get too much of that now, do we?
