Minimizing Windows media player

The last three or four days, I have had a problem with media player. When I minimize it, it doesn't minimize in such a way that you can access the basic controls (play, pause skip forward, skip back etc) in the task bar. I have right-clicked on the taskbear, gone to toolbars and ticked Windows Media Player, but no good. Any tips/clues out there please?

view...full mode....then right click taskbar as you were.

miniplayer does not work if you are using view.....skins mode

Personally i dont like WMP, it relies on third party codecs and the like

If you want a proper media player that has NOTHING to do with microsoft in any way. VLC is the way forward and it plays 99% of all media :
