Minutes applause for Ray Wilkins before Rags game.

I worked as a press photographer for close to 30 years. While you wait for your reporter, you see a lot of things to judge how our famous footballers/managers really are.
I was waiting for our sportswriter after a night game at Fulham around 1999ish. Wilkins came out of the Cottage dressing room area to speak to the media. Just before he got there, around around 10-30pm at night, he was stopped by a disabled fan in a wheelchair. He stopped signed any picture the kid had, spoke politely to all family members for I would guess 7-10 minutes before going into the press room. What a gentleman, I will acknowledge tomorrow without doubt. Basically a very nice person, with a lot of England caps for me.

After hearing the story from the ex soldier who was homeless and ray set him on the path to sorting his life out, I’ve got nothing but respect.

Can't see there being any problems.he was Chelsea through and through even though he played for united most people don't associate him with them.
Colours are irrelevant. A fine man by all accounts I've heard. Wouldn't expect anything less.

I will clap for Ray as he seemed a good guy despite being a rag and getting sent off in 86. I only really remember the end of his career but he was class for QPR.

Not looking forward to the next decade as a lot of stars of my childhood will be hearing the final whistle.

We should have a minutes drinking in his honour. Its what he would have wanted.

On another note who decides who gets a national applause and who doesn't....
Cyrille Regis most definitely yes a national one. Not sure about Butch though
I shall be doing more than a minute. As you say it’s what he would have wanted.

I would be shocked if it wasn't observed impeccably by our fans.
Regardless of who somebody played for, showing respect at their passing is what normal people do.
I can think of a few who'd be lucky to get a single applau.

There a few stories like this about Ray. I couldn't stand him for his anti City stance in the media and in particular a co commentary game vs Chelsea.

At the end of the day, they guy has died (too early) and if you can't put rivalries away and pay proper respects then we are no better than the clueless morons who bricked our bus on Wednesday that we claim to find abhorrent. Plenty of horrible rags I hate. I don't wish any of them dead.
