Minutes Silence

Took far too long getting the giant poppy off the pitch, game didn't kick off until nearly five past.

People are entitled to not participate in it and we should respect that.

Calling them 'twats' 'disrespectful' is disrespectful in itself.

Not all people are patriotic. I must admit I don't buy a poppy every year but it doesn't desensitise me in any way. The trumpet player yesterday really got to me , a packed stadium listening to a lone trumpet player and you couldn't hear a pin drop.
Bugle not that it matters :-)

Yet again we didn't observe the silence. Fans started clapping when the trumpeter finished when that should have marked the start of the minute's silence.

We have started this 'trend' of applauding through minute's silences over the last few years at the Etihad and I don't like it. The end of year silence we have traditionally had has been an applause for the last two years and now yesterday as well.
Well, the players were guilty also

My 6 year old son was amazed by this he asked all sorts of questions about it after the trumpet played. He said I'd love to do a minutes silence on day before a game and to his suprise his team he plays for did one before k.o. A minutes silence with his head held high

The bugler is a City fan too, I didn't know it was him until I got back last night and saw posts on his facebook page.

He was asked at late notice to do it and of course he was never going to turn that down. In his words: 'I was shaking like a leaf'.

Well done Curtis.

I can only imagine how nerve racking that must have been was outstanding

Fully agree regarding the Christmas minute silence, but yesterday I got the impression that nobody was fully certain if the silence was supposed to complement or follow the Last Post

I also felt that the ceremony seemed to overrun, mainly because it took too long for everyone to get into position.

I understand the importance of the war poem and the bugle, but did such a solemn occasion really merit Tony Book and Mike Summerbee being introduced to the crowd, before marching across the pitch?

It would have been simpler if they’d already joined the players, with a quick announcement
“Please stand, remove your hats, and join the players, match officials, Tony Book......"

Was driving home today listening to the commentries from Arsenal and Liverpool. Arsenal did the reading and last post no silence same as us. Liverpool just had a silence no last post. Maybe clubs were offerd different options.

Tell you what
If there's a game on 11/11 each year let's do the full monty.
Poppy rain, buglers, readings, last post, standing, etc., etc..
Otherwise playing any other date don't bother.
It's getting ridiculous now. Poppy fascists slagging people off for not being respectful on a random date a week before armistice day.

Tbh I was a bit confused yesterday I was expecting the ref to whistle to say when we start and finish but never heard a pep even from any kid in the family stand
