Very good player but not a defensive midfielder, more of a number 10.

He is most useful when playing an advanced central midfield role. His passing accuracy is phenomenal and his free kicks from 20/25 yds have a Pirloesque beauty.

He does very little heavy lifting in the defensive department, tackling-wise, so he’s not what we are looking for if we want to find a solid defensive midfield player, someone who can cancel opposition attacks, and win the majority of 50/50’s.

The best example of that is undoubtedly the player who has been linked with Real Madrid, Man Utd and Juventus. That is of course the Lazio box to boxer Malinkovic-Slavic for whom Lazio are unwilling to listen to bids less than £100m, and this despite his slightly underwhelming WC performances. On that basis he is way too expensive for us if we are looking for something in £30m-£60m+ range.

Great player, would be a much more incisive and threatening player to alternate with De Bruyne and Silva than Gundogan is in the more advanced midfield roles. If this happened Gundogan would drop back into the no.6 position as Fernandinho's deputy.

I still think Brozovic may be the better option from an age and price perspective though, but haven't heard any rumours on that front.

If true that we are now bidding for Pjanic, I guess Pep really isnt looking for as defensive of a midfielder, to replace Fernandinho, as I was thinking. Maybe the Ferna replacement is a window away.

I do believe Pep will sit Fernandinho in games we dominate possession and keep him fresh for others. A Pjanic type midfielder playing behind KDB and the Silvas sounds about right when we’re trying to pick through a bus.

Pjanic is the type of player we need when teams press as well. He has good 1 touch passing, but can also play through balls that will cut through a press. This is what I think we were hoping for with Jorginho. Pjanic has excellent vision to spot a though ball. We all love Fern, but he does lack in this department.

well, he plays as a regista with juve, same as pirlo used to and jorginho did at napoli, dont believe the deal is getting done tho, juve is asking too much although they need to make money due to the heavy investment they made so far

Fernandinho is very quick to spot a through ball and has executed some beautiful passes last season to set up goals and counterattacks. I think we're looking for someone who is better in tight spaces, can retain possession and take opposition players out of the equation when they press high up.

just rumours mate....Italian press reported we had a bid rejected, I dont think there is much substance to any of these reports. I think all these names now getting mentioned as we missed on Jorginho. I would like to see us sign another DM but so far only rumours.
