Mistake, After Mistake, After mistake! Why Can't We See Games Out?

to go up 2-0 vs PSG and then collapse in that style.
to go up 2-1 here and even players looked 100% sure they wont hold onto this lead for the 10 minutes left...

mentality is just poor this season.

Back when we were shit, we lost because we were simply not good enough. But this season, each game is question of who's turn is it to balls up today.
But I think this started last season. A mix up between Ortega and Gvardiol cost us the FA cup, and a mistake by Akanji could have cost us the title against Spurs.

Don't think we will unfortunately. The prize money at stake means that the club will want us to go deep in the competition, especially now we're probably going out of the Champions League.
I hope when we defeat the PL in court that we completely fuck off the idea that we need to balance the books

Do what we want, buy who we want and have a shoot out for the league every year with Newcastle

Mistakes happen all the time and it is part of the game, But seeing out the game when leading has nothing to do with the mistakes, It's more like mentality and lack of hunger and desire to go that extra mile. When you are comfy and won it all and on many occasions, there comes a point of fuck all this and you lose the will to win, Winners always will have somebody else pushing and chasing them because they want your crown or title.

I include Pep in all of this because he is the boss and he is letting all this happen
Pep would never settle for players turning off and giving up, he would be ripping them a new hole from the touchline and then in the changing room, they would leave the club pretty sharpish.

It's all got to Comfy from top to bottom, it's ok to lose because of the many things we have won in the past ??

Any defeat seems to cause a complete collapse in the mentality of many on the forum. Sure, you are emotionally invested in the team, but we are half-way through a two-legged match, and just one goal adrift. This after in-game injuries to Jack Grealish and to Manuel Akanji, and the unfortunate situation with Gonzalez who could be seen wincing in training. Every time we drop points or lose a game, questions are thrown at the board, and players scapegoated. I find it entitled and embarrassing.

It is very obvious where we are, and if we have a couple of seasons off after a decade of unbroken success, it's more than the vast majority of football fans in the country could ever hope for. We, meanwhile, have already begun to invest in the next generation, so hope springs for the end of this season and on to the next. If Pep doesn't make perfect decisions, and if he no longer seems like the greatest manager in the history of the game, right at this moment, were you not entertained?

As for why we keep making mistakes, it's because we are under pressure. We are the greatest team in English history (arguably) and our perch is wobbling. It is a precarious position and the world is watching. We have been without our leaders, in Dias and Rodders, and others who have been injured or ill for much of the year, and that has created vulnerability, both in our minds and in the opportunity that it gives to lesser foes to have a right good go where they may have capitulated in days of yore.

I'm confident we will get back there and I am going to try to enjoy the journey even through the turbulence.
I hope getting more out of Marmoush is a priority. And exploring whether Khusanov can play at right back. If we knew their potential then we'd be able to gauge how close we are to recovering.

It’s a fair point.

The decline is real.

The big question is yet to be answered, namely can we do what is required to get us back on top? As of now, that would be no.

Top to bottom of the club is on a winning come down. A meh attitude covered in the excuses/reasonable reasons depending on the view you take.

The rebuild is ongoing, Jan was successful.

I don’t know how long we will put up with the poor performances.

I can’t quite put my finger on it but the will to win is nowhere near the level required from the players. No amount of excuses will make me un see what we are witnessing match after match. Some of them don’t want it anymore and some of them can’t do it anymore. For god sake pep put them out of their misery, same goes for khaldoon to pep.

It’s time the excuses stopped.

The collapse is a mental fragility that needs rooted out.

That is what some people seem to be suggesting.

You can include a chunk of posters on this forum in that last bit as well.

The midfield can't control the ball, so we can't play our usual style. Pep managed to win titles without a main striker before, but this time, no one can replace Rodri. Even Pep seems to be struggling to find a solution. We've lost several matches, even against smaller teams. The weak midfield is also exposing our defense's flaws. Let's support the team and wait for Rodri's return. Next season, we can strengthen the team and come back stronger. For now, we must accept the situation.

Very well said.

We played a top side last night and weren't disgraced despite clearly off our best

You have seen the "collapse in the mentality" of the players in the last 10/15 minutes of games right???
There is no mentality collapse in the last 15m.
There is a mentality issue generally.
The last fifteen minutes sees teams that are not winning apply serious pressure.
We cannot deal with that because of physical failings and mental vulnerability.
Why? Because of the reasons I have outlined - missing leaders who have been injured and ill, and a natural fall from the success of the last two seasons.

Do you think there's some players past it, not good enough, under performing?

Losing is not fine, and everyone is gutted, but believing you have the divine right to win year after year is folly. Recognising your weaknesses is a strength and we are, whether we like it or not, physically and mentally vulnerable after a decade of strength. It is where we are, but we are still in this tie, and we are already in the rebuilding process, accelerated after the worst injury run for a decade.

Rather than the opposition, brain dead mistakes put serious pressure on ourselves

I think 75 mins is generous. For me it’s an hour and we’re done. You can see the legs fading and the intensity drops significantly. Especially the likes of Kdb, kova, ilkay. There’s others too.
It's not just the legs.

Ederson made two very costly mistakes yesterday, after several good saves. Same for Rico and Kova, who came as a sub. Don't know what it is (and far from knowing how to fix it), but it's not just the legs.
