[Johnny Mars Bar]

Play is one of those records I keep coming back to over and over again. Yes it was massively overplayed and he rinsed every bar of every song commercially but it’s a brilliant record. Funnily enough on its initial release the album was a flop. It was re released and became a massive sensation.

Moby released shitloads of work before Play. He was in several hardcore and punk bands for starters.

He also released a decent chunk of techno in the early 90s. ‘Go’ is an absolute banger and samples the Angelo Badalamenti Twin Peaks theme.

His later stuff is also well worth a listen. The Hotel Ambient mixes are beautiful, as is Last Night, Destroyed and Innocents. Very atmospheric ambient and cinematic.

‘Porcelain’ came out when my Nan died. Played it at home when I got back after hearing the news and cried my eyes out.

Here’s one of my favourites:

Also one of the best movie theme songs ever. Extreme Ways was the perfect song for the Bourne series and fuck me the first movie was amazing, especially the car chase sequences.

There a lot of Ronin in that first film. And there’s a lot of Bullit in Ronin.

I could easily derail this thread into a movie car chase debate!

That car chase scene in Bourne Identity is etched in my memory for reasons I can't really talk about, but needles to say, that Moby track is PERFECT for those films.
