Monarch Airlines

Been on the cards for a while. There is talk of a major investment and new aircraft orders but the CAA gave them 12 days a couple of days ago.

This has always been their problem, poor management and decisions have lead them to where they are which in the past included expanding too quickly. They shouldn't be talking of new aircraft whilst they can't afford to even own the planes they operate. Obviously they can lease in but then on the routes they operate I can't see what is ever going to be achieved in savings or benefits. Swapping to 737's too whilst having an all Airbus fleet is also a ridiculous decision if true unless they are seriously going to lease in crews too.

Just as an example of more bad decisions, they just recently curbed all long haul to places like Florida in favour of more routes to places like Egpyt and Turkey... My guess is they had to sell the A330's that operated them but anyway....

I hope they survive, they really need someone to get in there with some money and give whoever runs the place a massive kick up the arse.

They have been having trouble for years, they don't even own the planes they operate anymore.

Like Woolies eh? Sell the shops then lease them back - wha could possibly go wrong??

Where do they hire these managers from? Is there like a special farm breeding retarded fuckwits? I thought the swamp hoovered them all up -clearly not

Do any airlines actually own the planes? I thought they were all leased.

You're thinking of the railways mate - that only works because unlike air travel we have no fucking choice despite the promises of privatisation - if Trans Pennine says yer ticket is a zillion quid thats it - there's no Easy Train or similar running orange trains on a track next to them undercutting them.

Read this fleet list and in the remark column it shows who owns each plane, it tells you all you need to know. I don't know what their cashflow is like but without any assets to bargain with they are in deep do do if this so called investment does not arrive.

No-one who has booked or plans on booking is in danger of course because ATOL would compensate and get people home. This is almost what happened last week when several 747's and others were chartered because the CAA thought they were going down.

It is the families of the people who work for these companies who I feel for because it really isn't their fault, they have already taken a big paycut and wage freeze which I find astonishing in this day and age. Fingers crossed they survive.

Get down to ICC in Birmingham, you will find the greatest concentration possible.

they will prob eventually collapse, i may be wrong as i'm not that fully clued up,,but in all seriousness who would go online at this moment and give them £500 for a product you going to receive in 6 months' chinese investors or not',the damage has been created with the public announcement that ATOL have placed them on borrowed time,,if i worked for them i'd certainly be on the lookout for alternative employment

Glad we received our £1400 compensation off them before they have gone under
One full plane load of passengers delayed for 24 hours due to them running a totally unreliable aircraft.
They knew the day before that the plane wouldnt be in Manchester for the next morning (our flight)

Shame if it goes tits up, always preferred to fly with them rather than ryanair or easyjet.
