More student protests

Sad bastards. Protesting against the government who allow them to protest in the first place. Even if the student fees are cut, half of these 'degrees' wouldn't even qualify you to be a shoe shiner.

I've been on a part time night course for 2 years and sent my ucas application of yesterday, I left school with no gcse's and didn't go to college, had 3 kids at 21 and 3 years later, I'm living on a skitty council estate, never even dreamt I could go uni, now I'm set to finish my course in law with a distinction and will hopefully be a barrister in the next 10 years. If I have to pay 9000 a year for three years if it means me earning 50000 a year after, it seems fair to me.

The ones moaning are the ones doing useless degrees who know for a fact their future vocations are about as well rewarding as a kick in the balls. And uni is a privilege, not a right. If you don't agree with the cost, don't go. Proves that half of these students are more bothered about debt than actually taking pride in getting a degree. Money can't buy pride. So fuck their protests, and fuck them.

Only for the privileged few then is it?

Yes! It's a privelege for those who have worked hard. You cannot get into uni without doing so. Those that are protesting think they HAVE to be accepted. Send the moaning little bastards to Afghanistan and protest about education there or to north Korea. It wouldn't be a policeman baton hitting them, it'd be a bullet.

They do my head in. And its the tutors they should be protesting against anyway. Anyone see any tutors any of these protests going against the hike in student fees? No? I thought not.

And yet some cocky twat living at home with mummy and daddy doing an aprrenticship in wood cutting or whatever seems to take the moral highground.

an apprenticeship which pretty much means doing a full weeks work for less than a minimum wage and studying at the same time.

yeah real cocky twat. get with the real world.

Yep. I've got one at home with mummy& daddy. Up at 6am working an 8 hour shift for 200 a week. The cocky little fuker. When he's rained off he gets nought because he's an apprentice.
It's a hard knock life & everyone's taking a hit.

means tested uni places? that's what exams are for.

you can't means test fees because it is completely unfair for one person to pay more for the same course than somebody else.

I don't think it is. It's already in place in fact. Overseas students pay more. Well if you are resident in a household who can afford to pay you pay.

Either that or a graduate tax. If you want the best education to get the most highly paid jobs then you pay a graduate tax.

I used to be up at 6am, to work a 10 hour shift. I didn't like it, so I decided to work hard and go to university, so I can do something I enjoy for a living. Maybe some of these apprentices should've done the same.

Overseas students pay a hell of a lot more because they can be ripped off.

Don't agree with a graduate tax either, at the moment the tuition fee payable is consistant across all courses and is paid back anyway.

There's more fundamental flaws in the education system which a graduate tax won't resolve.

Care to take a guess at that percentage wise?

No idea, but at least you acknowledge that some students need FE to get the career they want.

I would have always said that.

What I didn't afree with was FE or dole as options.

-- Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:28 pm --

I actually think Felix killed this thread with his earlier post.

He raised numerous points that we'd all missed and there's not much else to say.

Although if you all want to carry on living in your fantasy worlds then so be it.

This student stereotype is ridiculous. I worked hard at school whilst a lot of my mates pissed about, therefore left with 8 A's 3 A*'s GCSE's and 4 A's at A-Level. I do a history degree aswell as work in a bar and earn about £150 a week. i dont ask for anything off my parents and hope to go into either teaching, journalism or military intelligence all which you need a degree to do. Anyone that thinks uni is a complete non-stop piss-up is seriously deluded. Bills, non-stop essay deadlines, living in shocking accomodation, dealing with scum of the earth estate agents. And yet some cocky twat living at home with mummy and daddy doing an aprrenticship in wood cutting or whatever seems to take the moral highground.

I do so like to be told what we can and can't do by one so learned as you.

It is kind that you take the time to converse with ones less enlightened than yourself.

Can you advise me of a thread I may be allowed to dip in and out of?
