More trams

great advert for public transport... "hey, we're shit, so why don't you just fucking walk?"

I’m not saying we’re shit though am I?

I’m saying expectations are above and beyond what is realistic

Metrolink put on extra trams and doubles on match days..they also have other lines that take commuters to work/shopping/tourists..as much as I love City and football..I realise the world doesn’t revolve around it..our transport system is no worse than most cities in the UK..

Here’s an idea..fucking walk to town you lazy bastards

I do it every game..walk from town..walk back

As for the trams being crowded..it’s a fucking football match..what are you expecting? A buffet car serving vol-au-vents?

Metrolink only has so many units and believe it or not there are other lines on the Biggest tram network in the uk..they put as many doubles as they can on that line on match day..I know..because I have to drive the bastards

There’s not much else you can do with that amount of people all leaving at the same time..as for the suggestion United get more trams..bollocks..it’s the same line..Altrincham Etihads..the Etihad is also serviced by the Ashton Eccles trams..Old Trafford by Bury Altrinchams

People are always going to be squashed in post match..like I said..if you don’t like it..walk

Another note..on the rare occasion I’ve got a tram home from the match I’ve walked to New Islington stop and caught one from there..easily squeezing on with no queue

Like I said..Lazy

So how come the trams queue up at the raggies ground ? How come I have tried to get a tram at Sale where I live on a raggy match day only for it to sail past saying not in service..... it is not in service cos it is going to the swamp to shift the shit, (and me when I have to go) How come when you queue up at Piccadilly gardens before the match they are all marked 'Piccadilly', they are running empty to shift the fand from the sation, so there are extra ones, where are they after the match ?
Also it is 2018, why should I walk 30 minutes back into town, The lying bastards told the government it would be built in time for the Commenwealth games, how many years later was it done ? It is a piss poor overcrowded service at normal times, Manchester wants to be the second city, at this rate they are just second rate.

As a guesstimate and being very very generous..maybe 5% of tram users on match days walk with aids or use a wheelchair..I highly doubt you see ‘dozens’

Like I said..no one forces anyone to use the buses/trams..if you think it’s shit..get a taxi

I’m not a ‘company man’ by any means..I just work on the inside and know the logistics involved..Metrolink throw a lot of resources at it..and I’m sure Stagecoach do the same with the buses
You've just called people lazy for getting the tram and telling them to walk, now you're telling them to get a taxi. I suppose you've never been in a vehicle at all have you, walked everywhere. A lot of us know the logistics of running the service on match days and also appreciate it. At times though it's shite, and calling people lazy bastards is below the belt.

Is it though..the sad fact is MOST fans can’t be arsed walking it..obviously as previously mentioned there are exceptions..but MOST of the tram users pre and post match are perfectly able bodied

If I was that enraged about being squashed in and it being a shit service..I wouldn’t use it

Fact is Metrolink..with limited resources..transport thousands of fans every match day..it would be nice to have more units..but unless TFGM put their hand in their pockets (Highly unlikely) it’s not going to happen

Maybe if you all feel so strongly about it you should write to our scouse mayor..he’s in charge of transport now ;-)

Yes, it is. The Underground has warm stations and trains every 3-4 minutes on every line. Should be the same here. Like I said every tram should be a double and there should never be an instance (bar catastrophic problems, like Godzilla appearing) where there is more than a 5 minute gap between trams on any line in any direction. If you can't do it now, then you need to stump up the cash to give Manchester the service it needs, not what your employers can be arsed paying for which is inadequate.

You’re not seriously comparing us to the Capital are you?

If we had half the funding they had down there we’d have the best transport system in the world

Anyway..I’m off..have to be up at 04:30am to ferry you ungrateful lazy bastards to work ;-)

To simply say if it is a shit service, walk is hardly a sensible suggestion. The train service to London is a joke, do you recomend we walk there ? The whole system is a joke, the staff at the station hold people back and only allow a few to stand on the platform, then when a tram arrives and is only a quarter full they open the gates, everyone rushes down in case it goes without them, that is a disaster waiting to happen. You only need one person to fall at the top and there will be many injuries. Everything about it is amateur and needs improving.
A few City fans writing to the mayor (by the way, what does it matter where he is from ?) isnt going to achieve much, if the club did it however a lot could be achieved.

Mate listen, I know what you mean and agree with what you say about the service. I've walked to the ground and back many a time from town. But not everyone can for lots of reasons, disabilities, young kids in tow or older folk with them. All I'm saying is not everyone is lazy and the service could probably be improved at times, especially on event days.On a side note I'm not going to bother with the Mayor.

edited for accuracy.

At the risk of going off thread, it's probably easier to heat (or retain heat) in an underground station, especially as almost every tram stop has been constructed with minimal protection from the weather.
After we played Arsenal last season I walked to Arsenal tube station (about ten minutes from the ground) queued for about 15 minutes then straight onto the platform and on the first train. The timetable was every three minutes (IIRC) and each tube could carry approximately double the number of passengers when compared to a double length tram.
I'm not sure this is a valid comparison as there are loads of busses along Holloway Road and several other tube and rail lines, but while other public transport options are available it's a city that hates motorists almost as much as Manchester and Salford.
