Morgan Gibbs-White

Except the whole point was how much we improved in the leaguen in the second half of the season compared to the first.
Our performances improved compared with the worst bits of the first half of the season.
They weren't better than the early bits of the season where we were getting results but not really looking that good.
Personally I thought there were a few decent performances all season but none where we looked anywhere near any of our form when we were winning titles.
Our home form was OK but even in the second half of the season we had very poor away performances at Old Trafford and Southampton.
When we were winning titles we could struggle to put away midtable teams particularly away, but teams like Utd and Southampton didn't trouble us.

Sure, but I don't think anyone was saying it was a team capable of getting 95 points. The context that the team improved significantly following the January transfer window and before Rodri came back is important, though, especially with further reinforcements now coming in.

Personally, I think we'll win the league next season now.

Good players but none could currently run a hard 90 minutes, particularly up and down the park. Gibbs-White might not be the answer, but we still need someone with that energy and intensity to play in the middle.
Nico O Reilly could definitely cover ground given a central midfield role next season.

Gibbs White spends most of his time sitting in a low block and waiting or counter attacks.

Tomas Soucek covered more ground than any Premier League player last season, that says it all. If Soucek can cover the most ground then Surely young Nico can be in and around that.

O’Reilly was on his chinstrap by the end of the season and needs a couple of years to be able to cope with a full domestic season in midfield. Soucek covers the ground but we need someone to be able to do so with pace, especially heading back the way, as Rodri and Gonzalez just don’t have that in their lockers.

Tend to agree, lack of pace and running power in that midfield. Some decent acceleration over 5-10 but full on all-action box to box pace is missing. Id still look for it MGW or elsewhere if possible

That’s the main ‘hole’ in the team as I see it. We can probably get by with Nunes at right back, but without some added dynamism in midfield, it could be a difficult season.

yeah, its kind obvious why the MGW & Sara seem to be the targets for that, looking at the profiles of those in the mix already.

I'd understand if people on here were saying MGW isn't good enough lets sign ... instead.

But the main argument is we dont need him because of what we have. Gundo, Bernie & Kov all getting on and its really noticeable we need legs in midfield. O'Reilly is great and I hope he gets minutes in midfield this year but he's not going to start every game for us. We also need to make sure we have a stable midfield so we dont kill Rodri again.

When at our best in recent years how many class players didn't make the team sheet? We have never had the biggest squad but plenty of high level players fighting for positions. Gundo, Kov, Bernie, Jack, Foden, Nico, KDB have all had plenty of games where they are on the bench.

We need a squad thats balanced. This would be a great signing for me and would mean we can sell some players that need moving on.

Given McAtee, KDB & likely one of Bernie or Gundo are on their way out or already gone - plus Kovacic unlikely to be fit at the onset of the season and Rodri coming off an ACL, alongside Nunes being shit as a midfielder (and shite as a full back too) we will need another quality player in midfield.

You can argue the merits or not of MGW but hes Prem tested/proven, can get from box to box and counts as homegrown. At the £60m sort of area Id bite the bullet tbh - anything north of that and it looks a bit steep.

Id add that I think we are very much still interested in the player and I dont believe this deal isnt dead by any means. Much more likely to happen than Livramento which Id wager has the square route of zilch chance of actually happening.
